Great presentation.  Learned a lot about Victorys and potential maintenence headaches on Harleys.  However, it is pretty one sided.

First of all I LOVE the new Victory motor. I think it's a great engine and makes great power.

But I couldn't get through the first video because the bald guy is talking out of his ass. I can imagine that this gets better as they go along.

Picking on a Harley is a pretty easy target. The Sportster is even more fun. Question: Why are there four single lobe cams in a Sportster? Because it's the same set of cams used in the earlier FLATHEAD version.   ;D

Well.....it IS a Victory presented series of videos.  However, I'm inclinded to agree with your assessment.....leaned some things that I didn't know about both brands.  I thought that, even though definitely tilted towards Victory, that the information presented would help folks make an informed decision regarding both brands if they're thinking about a purchase.

Also, if anyone can dispute the info provided......please chime in.  The more information, the better IMHO.

wow, by watching those video's it sounds like it is!!

i test road the victory vision two years ago.  i wasn't impressed, i did like the cruise control, and the stereo but other than that i'll take my Valkyrie ANY day......  as for the last video, the guy says, "if you want to keep up with a victory, you better be on a sports bike"......  yeah, right......

The Vision has some neat features, but it's butt ugly.  The sport bike comment was a lame attempt at selling the Victory line.....they are Victory videos.  The guy comes across as a tool, but the info provided is still educational/informative to a point I'd think.

While I do have a soft spot for Harleys, the videos do bring up some design issues with the Harleys that I'm sure alot of people arn't aware of....I know I wasn't.  Whether they're valid points or not is another discussion altogther.

Honda doesn't care about the Valyrie and most likely will never make another one.  The ones on the road now aren't going to last forever, and I'm sure that at some point in the furture, we'll all be looking for another ride.  Victory might not be the be all, end all, but Victory and especially the Cross County Tourer has my attention.

I care nothing whatsoever about two-lungers no matter who makes it  however they did make that Harley motor look like a total POS.

I've seen alot of people that thought they were cool , but then again Lord I've seen alot of fools.

If for some reason I had to own one or the other, it would be the victory. The HD's horsepower is too low to interest me.

But, I can't see replacing my Valk with a bike with equal or lesser performance and you don't really gain anything from the Victory either. To replace my Valk I'd be looking for 30 or 40 more HP and at least equal comfort, handling and longevity. I really wouldn't want a bike that looks like a mud fence either.

As far as I can see, that bike I'm lookin' for just ain't out there. Maybe the 6 cylinder Beemer I guess, but it's cursed expensive.

For me, horsepower wouldn't be the issue. The Valk has way more power then I'll ever need, or use. I just don't care for the looks of the Victory. I like a traditional cruiser appearance.

what did he say about chain drive? was last used in the 30's? or something like that..well up until over head cams all our cars had chain drive cams...

the heat on the stator? hasnt been a problem all these years..
starter gears? still used today on almost all cars..

i am with anvil on this one,,,he is talking out his ass...

I have two sons. One has a Harley Street Bob and the other a Victory Jackpot. The Jackpot is a superior bike in every respect. But it was also much more expensive.

It was my understanding he was talking about the primary chain drive used to connect the engine to the transmission. Which resulted in the clunk when shifting.

Even with overhead cams, there are chains. While it is true the HD is antiquated in many ways, even the Victory guy siad several times: If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

I do like the VIctory, but also agree that looks, and fit & finish are better on a HD. Having said that, I will not replace my '99 HD RoadGlide until they come out with a liquid cooled motor.

BTW - My RoadGlide puts out 100+ hp and 100+ Torque out of 95 Cu. inches/ Screaming Chicken indeed! BUT... the Valk does make the HD seem like an Antique, but then again, so am I. While I like the Victory, I went to look at them recently and the prices are insane. I'd buy a new GW or BMW first.

Who says our Valks won't last forever?  I would think another 20 years should be in order and by then most of us won't be riding cycles much longer than that anyways?  :coolsmiley:

The only 2 bikes used I would consider is the victory cross country tourer or the newer 1832cc goldwing and until they come down in my price range, I'm happy with the flat 6.  Yes, fuel injection and a 6th gear would be nice to hopefully improve fuel economy a little, but that is about it really.

The one problem my cousin has had with his Victory is that the aftermarket stuff is so damn expensive.  Everything seems to be $500+.

Everything that he says about the design of Harley components is true.  But, Victory desperately want to get a bigger slice of the Harley market.  People will still buy Harleys long after Victory dies.

Short Video that explains a lot.

May not brake the best, outrun them all, or cost the least, but why buy a copy of the original, when you can have the original?

People who dis chains don't get it. They're strong, quiet and durable. The chain as used in a primary is constantly lubricated and because of this they last a very, very long time, just as with chain driven cams. 200+ horsepower MotoGP bikes still use chain final drive for a reason. I also rather like the agricultural (I call t "positive") feel of HD gearshifting. But that "clunk" is not entirely from the primary chain. Belt driven primaries do it too.

The whole argument he's making is goofy anyway. "Here's why our engine is so much better. You shouldn't want THAT engine even though we engineered ours to look as much like it as possible." Dork.

1 Victory Motors are not asthetically pleasing to me at all.

2 2006 Street Bob and Dynas, 2007 all mtrs have upgraded Oil Pumps and Pressure.

3 Stuff from the clutch and all the gear drive is going all into the crank, cams and anything else in there, Harley all fluids are sepreate.
   no cross contamination.

4 800 hp Corvettes and all Nascar engines have push rods still yet.

5 The Dumb Butt said they had to lessen the oil volume to get thier motor to heat up, Harley puts a thermostatic oil cooler on it to regulate that.

6 Both of my Harleys 5000 miles change the synthetic oil and always find they have not moved on the stick at all. No OIl Loss.

7 VIctories are good bikes but cycle world said seat of the pants the Harley wins every time.

He said that??? Wow, these people need to make up their minds. Do they overheat constantly or run cold? WTF.

Well perhaps this will sounds a little foolish to some but I could give a rip either way.  Most of the bikes today are fairly refined and I'm going to ride what I enjoy riding.  All this pissing and moaning over who's got the best bike is primarily about egos at this point.  Yes it is nice if you can avoid having to spend less time wrenching and more time riding but then that's part of the fun also, at least in my mind.  If I had my way I'd ride a combination of bikes and enjoy every minute of it.  As it stands now I can't afford to do that, fortunately for me I ride one of the best bikes ever manufactured, 12 years old, and I love every minute I'm riding and or working on my Valk.

And that's all I have to say about that.... :-X

At least they make them for the valk, he can't get any for his Victory.  A passenger backrest cost him almost $800, driver backrest cost him almost $400.  My valk's driver's backrest only cost me $110.  He is thinking of getting the rear trunk, that is $1700.  Also, this is a current model bike, not one out of production for almost a decade.  A lot of stuff that he would like to put on is not even offered yet.  He had a wing before this bike and the stuff for it is really cheap in comparison.

If global warming is happening...why is it so cold up here?

All the other stuff aside.... did anyone make it to Segment 5?  It appears to have a fantastic balance.  I don't think I could lift my Valk like that.
John

biguglyman

Victory also copied an inherent design flaw in the Harley engine: the single crank pin.  Sacrifice power and smoothness so it will make the same potatopotatopotato sound.  I've been riding for 40 years now and I'll stick with what I've said since I started.  I will never own a Harley.  If you gave me one free of charge I would sell it, then take the money and buy a nice Honda and have enough money left over for a good used car to drive in the winter.  Granted Harley's initial cost and resale value make this possible.  The only other bikes I'd consider owning at this time are the big Triumph triple and another Valky.  Triumph triple just because it's so effing big...lol. :crazy2:

The Anvil

I just watched segment 5.

Make no mistake, he's a pretty big dude, but what makes it so easy to pick up is that when he drops it the wheels appear to lift minimally from the ground. Some crash bars as installed on Harleys effectively do the same thing. It's not all that low to begin with.

But the ground clearance IS impressive. I'd like to have me some more of that.
