Youth .22 rifle

Looking for a youth .22 for my granddaughter. I can't find one used, Didn't really want to pay for new. there has to be thousands of these laying around doing nothing.

Anyone have one they want to get rid of?
They out grow them so fast

Go to your local gun shop I bet there has to be some used ruger 10/22's with the 10 shot rotary clip around for around 150-200 bucks used.  I know about 10-12 years ago I bought my ruger 10/22 with scope and case got a deal for 200 bucks brand new but gun prices have risen since then.

Got my daughter a 10/22 Youth model, shorter shoulder to trigger length.  Later I will get a full size stock and switch it out to increase that pull length.  She loves it as long as I reloading....lol the BM25 magazines took care of that frequent reloading.  Well worth the $225

I bought my daughter a "little buckaroo" long long ago. It was a nice little single shot. For some reason she won't loan it to her niece for the few years she will use it.
I'm thinking a Cricket .22

Just seems silly to be buying this new when there has to be piles of them doing nothing.

I was thinking more towards a rifle she would grow with. sorry, I had the name wrong its a 10/22CRR.  If your look strickly at how much it cost the cricket has ushered alot of youths into the realm of marksmanship, but after that it becomes a hand-me-down as it has no additional practical purpose.  The Ruger uses the same receiver for all its rifles.  So you can swap barrels, stock, triggers.  The amount of aftermarket parts are numerous.  But you are right, its twice as much as a cricket...

I have a few full sized .22s
I just need a small one for now.

I'd go with a Cricket .22... They're not the best built rifles out there, but they're also around $100 brand new...

Also, for a girl, they're available in hot pink. Somehow, the gun being hot pink makes it more approachable for a girl (Not to be sexist or anything, just speaking from experience...)

All 4 of my kids have their own Cricket rifles (The triplets had theirs by 18 weeks of gestation... )

The whole gun is built for little hands and little people, not just a shortened stock. She still has a LOT of work on technique, but here's Kali shooting hers when she was 6:

The cricket is a good little gun and it has a built-in bolt lockout. It also has a hammer that cocks independently of the bolt so when you close it on the round it's still not ready to fire requiring an extra step. That's what my daughter is learning to shoot with. She'll be shooting the fullsized 10/22 soon.

And yeah, the Ruger 25 round mags are awesome. Much higher quality than the aftermarket ones I've seen.

Not all of them have that option, I learned after buying the newest ones. My older daughter's, a stainless steel one, has the bolt lock, but the 3 newer non-stainless steel ones I got for the triplets don't have that option on them...

Pretty ancillary to the discussion at hand, but wanted to point that out for the sake of accuracy...

My son-inlaw picked up a used Cricket (or might be a Chipmunk) for my granddaughter 2 months before she was born.  We tried it out with "CB's" at her baby shower.  No loud noises were allowed by my daughter while pregant - would scare the baby.

No kidding? Hmm. I one I have is about 10 years old. Can you still get it or is it done away with?
