I have a burning desire for some hard saddlebags on my 10K mi. blue/cream '98 Valk. I see a local ad lists a '97 Tourer green/cream with 48K mi. with an asking price of 5k. "runs & looks new." I'm thinking a switcharoo on the Tourer parts, since I can't find any factory bags. What then could I sell the '97 for after it's deflowered, or possibly add my Valkyrie Hondaline soft bags and maybe my Memphis Shades. The '97 also has a drivers backrest that may just be an "Ultimate", which would be a big plus since one is on my wish list. I would need to turn this fairly quickly. What do you think?

If you "have a burning desire for some hard bags", keep the Tourer.
Why de-flower it? If it aint broke, don't "fix" it! These bikes are getting rarer and rarer. It's a shame to ruin  one.

I have had the same thought several times.

If you sold it as a standard... no one would probably be any wiser.

You do what you want.

A Standard is bringing $5K pretty easy most places...

I did that many years ago. Bought a tourer the same color as mine, removed he bags, windshield and front fender (mine had a ding in it) and then sold it as as a standard for $100 less than I gave. The new owner was tickled to death with his standard.

And yes, he was aware of it.

There is a guy up here selling Green/Silver Interstate bags, with the brackets/hardware for 1k.  They have been for sale for a year at least, on CL off and on, and I tried to make him a 700.00 offer, but he ignored my email message (a few times). I didn't bother calling.... but here is his ad.....

I saved, sold, prayed, begged, borrowed & threw a fit to get my blue/cream Valkyrie, and it's not going anywhere. I can't afford 2, and never had a burning desire for a green/cream (not that there's anything wrong with that). The way parts are now, I could almost part it out. I've got to get a look at it.
