Halogen 1157 Brake light bulb

Just wondering if anyone has used an 1157 halogen in the brake light housing, and whether it has caused any damage from heat. Thanks Rick

Yes, heat damage is most likely to occur. You're better off getting an LED panel to go in there such as made by Radiantz. I've found them on ebay for even less $$ and they're BRIGHT. It's a direct plugin, I use it with a clear lens which makes the red LED's appear even brighter.

The problem I had with them is they burn out quickly.  usually in the middle of a long road trip.

+1 on the panel replacemenrt.



Notice the reflection on the tractor seat.     Super bright, think it has like 127 LED's in it and guaranteed for life.    Mine has been in there right at 9 years with no problem.

Those are aftermarket turn signals with some round clusters from Radiantz in them.

A friend of mine, had that unit in his Yamaha.

I think it was either our 2nd or 3rd trip, I had to ride behind him cause it burned out.     This was to keep his arse from being run over.

This is one of the few times we super slabbed anywhere.   We ended up coming home on I-80,   can you say boring, yup it was boring as hell.

2357 has 40 cp
3496 has 43 cp  is listed as a heavy duty bulb

They are using lumens now for light output.  What ever happened to watts?

Candlepower I think is in the same arena.

The important point is the heat produced under constant illumination.

Some of those high power tail light bulbs can and do melt the tail light cover and assembly.

Me? I stick with the 1157.

I'm not criticizing you in any manner so don't get offended.

Just wanted to point out the problems with comparing bulbs. Led's are all rated in lumens.

Candlepower and wattage are now obsolete measuring methods. Wattage being the least effective and the oldest I think.

Go figure!

They are the same. With the introduction of low whats but high output, we need a means of comparison. Who cares how many watts a bulb is (in theory) we only care how much it can bee seen, or we can see by it.

It's like the CFB at 35W are compared to an incandesant 60W bulb.
