Timing Belts

So who has used what?

First change out I went with Napa #250275, this time I went with Gates #275. As mentioned in my earlier post 'any suggestions?' it's running rough. I will be rechecking the timing mark positions to make sure I didn't miss it by a tooth. I did notice it was a tighter fit when installing the Gate belts and when compared to the old ones (Napa) they were a little smaller in circumference. I figured that was due to stretching. I will count the ribs tonight and compare and thinking that any difference in numbers there would be a progresive change in timming happening. Just thinking out loud here and may be over engineering my the solution to my problem.

I went with the Gates belts as the numbers supplied in the generic parts list. After i changed them out and it was time to fire up the engine it dawned on me-there is no way in h3ll i could keep both ears covered AND start the engine!!  Anywho it wurked out jes fine.  Let us know please whatever you find out. Gates manufactures the NAPA belts.  One question, were you having a problem both times you changed belts?  Honda calls for replacement when needed after 100,000 miles inspection interval.  I checked mine at 100k, buttoned it up and am still using it.  Looked like new, also the idler and pullys were fine.  Hoser

No problems prior to changing the belts. 1st time was at about 110,000 and the OEM belts were leaving deposits on the idler pully's so I cleaned and changed the belts. Now I have 227,000 miles and no deposits on pullys and belts looked ok, but changed them for piece of mind. Heading out on a road trip end of August and just did it.

So,, this critter was running smoothly before the belt change ?? And now its running rough ??  If so,, I'd recommend not running it longer until the front cover comes back off..
Or,, was it running rough and you thought the belt change might help cure it ??  The belts shouldn't affect the way it runs as long as there was nothing wrong with them and they were installed correctly..

The NAPA belts I picked up stated gates right on them. I think all the belts that have 275 in the number is made by gates. After replacing them I found a set of gates on Amazon.com a lot cheaper with free shipping. Just FYI.
