Question about the universal joint

The service manual show the boot backwards. Does it also show the universal joint backwards?

Is it possible to install the universal joint backwards? What would happen if you did?

Nope.  The output shaft is bigger than the propeller (drive) shaft, and will not mate to the wrong side.
