Dragons To The Cave! 2012

Howdy Folks!
Well I would say it time again this year for Dragons to the Cave (DTTC), but the time has not been firmly established for each year.
This year we are scheduling it for the Veterans Day weekend.
Here's what we have planned so far:
*Friday, 9 November:  
    Arrival Day (I'll be set up in the small camping area just across from the office to be available to meet and greet all arrivals.)
*Saturday, 10 November:
    Local area rides and routes all ending at the Queen Wilhelmina Lodge for Lunch
    Local rides back to Robbers Cave for fellowship and BBQ in the evening   (I'm not sure of the cost for dinner yet, but last year I think it was around $10.)
*Sunday, 11 November:  
    Thank You presentation to our Veterans
    Bike Games
    Local rides and send off for anyone having to work on Monday
*Monday, 12 November
    Departure Day

The State Park has agreed to hold all 18 rooms in the lodge and all 3 available cabins for us for! We have first call on all the accommodations in the park for those dates from now until 31 Aug. I guess we made a favorable impression on them last year.

Motomama, tell Willow we're not expecting the kind of thunderstorm we had last year!  Several of us were standing on the porch of the office at the park and someone said, "I think I hear a Valk!" The rest of us said, "Naw, no way. Not in this much rain."  Yep, you guessed it. It was Willow. I bet took this year's summer to dry THAT jacket out.

If you're waiting to sign up for this year's Dragons To The Cave you might want to make you reservations right away.  The reservation system will remain restricted to only people with our group for only a few more days.  Just be sure to tell the nice folks you are coming with the Valkyrie Riders.  No one else will be allowed to reserve a room until after Aug 31.

I know it may be too late in the year for some of our Northern Brothers and Sisters, but if you make it on down here, the weather should be really nice that time of year in Oklahoma (unless it is 100 degrees or snowing). One thing is for sure, it won't do both... well not on the same day probably.

If you guys are planing on eating at the Mena Lodge you better do some checking. I read elsewhere it's closed for renovation.

Thanks Raymond, that is in fact one of the "normal stops" for sure.
Right now I'm looking for someplace of equal quality and about that far away from the park that allows several routes to get there. 
I'm gathering routes from the area right now and will post them as Google maps.

Does anyone have a favorite place in the area for a mid-ride lunch?

Hello Everybody!

Just wanted to remind you the Dragons to the Cave trip is quickly approaching.
There are about nine more rooms available in the lodge.  They have opened the reservations to the general public now so be sure to tell them you are with the Valkyries.  At "press time" we need one more reservation to make our minimum.  I'm sure we'll cover the min, but I'll feel a lot better if we do it right away!
In a couple of days I'll post the info for the dinner and have some ride routes published.  The main thing I'm stuck on is a good "ride to lunch" location. I'm open to suggestions!

Well with regret I had to cancel my reservation to Robber's Cave . I have been hanging on hoping it would work out, but the final straw has hit the camels back and I need to cancel. I hope to make this again, hopefully next year! If anyone needed a room there is one for Friday and Saturday.

I have reservation and still hoping to make it.  Bike was goosed in the rear Wednesday and not sure if I will have it road worthy by then or not.  My insurance company estimate is about $3,300.  Other party supposed to see me next Tuesday.  Then we shall see.

I'm still working the catering issue for our Saturday evening meal.  I'm still thinking BBQ as it was a real hit last year.  I'll work it hard this weekend and post some finalized details as soon as they firm up.
the WX 'round these parts is getting a distinct hint of fall to the air.  The riding should be really nice for a ride and the trees (if we don't get a prolonged cold spell) should be really colorful.
One other thing... Could everyone coming that is a Veteran (either Valk pilot or passenger) let me know please?  I want to make sure I'm prepared for our little recognition program.

I have the catering list and need to confirm an attendance for our Saturday evening meal. Please send me an email (buddyhammond@gmail.com ) or reply here to let me know you are coming.

Also I got the following note from the park:

"I got your contract wanted to let you know that some of your guys have cancelled so you need to send out a note you need to try to place at least four more reservations for Friday and Saturday, I will use some of my other reservations to help defray your cost but we really need a couple of more."

As you can see we are below the planned number of rooms in the Inn.  Tell all your friends and neighbors to "come on down".

Outstanding! Really looking forward to seeing everybody again.
So far it looks like there may be two Magnas for part of the time and one Victory too.  OU has a home game that weekend so lots of locals are only availabel for part of the time.

Bike got hit week ago Wednesday and still trying to get the rearend fixed up good enough to ride.  Got insurance check from O.P. in mail today.  Got Standard fender and fender lights.  Have new tire mounted.  Still needing wiring harness and putting all back together.  Hoping I can manage getting the trunk lights functional also.  Harness supposed to be here late Wednesday.

Still planning on making it.

We'll be camped in our Raptor toy hauler in that little camping area right across from the park registration office.  If we're not at the office to meet you when you get in be sure to stop by our trailer!  (That goes for everyone too!)

Sholdn't be a problem with the room. Last time the Park Staff emailed me they were concerned I might have to pay for an unused room or two. (I assured them my concerns on that score were far greater than theirs.) We'll get you fed, wattered, and bedded down somewhere.
