Ipod for a Dumb@$$

Just got an Ipod for work and travels.  Is there such thing as bluetooth headphones, and will they work inside a helmet?  Also how do I use this thing on the valk without killing myself?  Where do I put it, How and safely/weather proof-ish?  seems nice but when it comes to electronics I can mess up a soup sandwich.

The Scala G4 is awesome.  bluetooth to tunes, your phone, and Squealy and I talk to each other when we ride together too.  Bike to bike coms helps a lot more than I ever thought it would.

Some of the newer helmets come with bluetooth compatibility and built in speakers too.

I put my mp3 player inside my stereo.  I put my stereo inside my Woodys fairing.

The stereo is a Sony DSX-S100.  It's the least expensive one they offer....less than a 100 bucks.  They also offer the DSX-S200 and DSX-S300 versions with bluetooth so you can sinc them to your headset/helmet/whatever.  

Personally, I don't really like having a headset/earbuds on while I'm riding.  I've tried it before and don't like it.....I feel like it isolates me and takes away too much of my senses while riding.   I'd rather have my tunes coming from the fairing were I can still enjoy tunes while riding, but I can still take in all of the other things happening around me too without having my hearing blocked and overwhelmed by tunes coming just from the earbuds.

I bought these speakers when they were only $35 (including shipping).  Been using them for over 5 years, but had to replace the volume control cable this summer, and the 3.5mm stereo jack on the actual speakers.  With the minor repairs, they still work very well.

They hard wire to the iPod, which I keep in my pocket (and I do not adjust while moving).  There is a volume control that is easy to operate.  Over 60 mph, the speakers are just barely loud enough.

YP, I was looking at one of these the other day at wally world for my iPod (that I just have attached to the handlebars out in the weather at this point), and it was looking like a viable option if something ever happens to my current setup.  You can even run a power cable in and keep the iPod charged:

As for using it w/o killing yourself, that takes common sense and mounting it where it's easy to reach and see...

My Scala G4 controls the MP3 player thru bluetooth, and can be done with one (left) hand on the side of my helmet.

Is the Scala G4 Voice activated for talking? When using as bike to bike, is the mic open all the time or do you send some kind of signal to begin talking?

If you've got a smart phone, you might consider using it. I got a couple os SS hose clamps and threaded them through slits I cut in the belt holder for my iPhone. (Otter Box) Then ran them around the plate that holds the handle bars.
That is my older iPhone 3GS in the photo. I don't trust the water tight integrity of the Otter Box with the power adapter attached. It comes off and goes in the trunk or bags in the rain.
Tunes, Phone, (Answer only) GPS Navigator on the move. Video, Internet, texting, and e-mail when stopped. I found a stereo, bluetooth headset. (Don't remember the brand.)
I'd already wired in a 12Volt adapter, so I just plug the phone into it. (GPS sucks down a battery pretty quick.)
Mine is obviously an iPhone, but I'm sure all of those features and app are available for Android as well.

It's sort of VOX.  It's a little clunky.  It's an open mic when connected.  But after like 30 seconds it'll disconnect.  Then you can reactivate the connection by talking again.  It's not real smooth and might take 10 seconds to re-start if you let the connection lapse.  But we just always keep it open.  a charge lasts like 10 hours.  And you CAN run it while plugged in as well.
