nice day for a ride

mid 70's
my brother his wife and son were up to see my folks so I rode over the Hudson River
on the Valkyrie via TZ Bridge  to Orangeburg and we all ate breakfast at a diner

Then it was up the Palisades Parkway  stopped for a fresh hot corned beef and pastrami at Ben's in New City and put that and a Dr Brown Black cherry soda in the side bag for later
At the left exit for Lake Welch maybe half a mile up was half a dozen state troopers in the middle of the road They waved me thru   No idea what they was up to and continued into
Harriman Park
At Seven Lakes Parkway Lake Sebago I turned east and to my pleasure the road was fresh paved and a few miles down I saw the washed out bridge was repaired
I turned north on 106 which was fresh paved for the first mile and continued to 17kat the Ramapo River
then turned around as 106 is my favorite twisty road up these parts
Lots of bikes of every kind and description and most waved back cept for a few crotch rockets
Thru Bear Mtn and over the Bear Mtn bridge to the goat trail which had no potholes but still have the strip paving on it
Got to push by a few bikes once I got on 9 kept it no more than 40 over
No speed awards were given out, in fact except for the
troopers in the park none out at all

Just around 100 miles for the trip and I will gladly say that riding thru the woods with the tall trees, the lakes beside me and the cool air was just what this country lawyer from the Bronx needed at just the right time.

With this motorized grass catcher, I wear ear plugs while mowing.    Got to save what little hearing I have in my right ear.

The history of the Bronx, a borough of New York City, started with European colonization in 1639. The Bronx was originally part of Westchester County, but it was ceded to New York County in fragments before it became Bronx County.




Jonas Bronck (?–1643) was a Scandinavian-born emigrant from Holland who arrived in New Netherland during the spring of 1639. He became the first recorded European settler in the area now known as The Bronx. He leased land from the Dutch West India Company on the neck of the mainland immediately north of the Dutch settlement in Harlem (on Manhattan island), and bought additional tracts from the local tribes. He eventually accumulated 500 acres (about 2 square km, or 3/4 of a square mile) between the Harlem River and the Aquahung, which became known as Bronck's River, or The Bronx. Dutch and English settlers referred to the area as Bronck's Land.[4] The American poet William Bronk is a descendant of Pieter Bronck, either Jonas Bronck's son or younger brother.[9]

The Bronx is referred to, both legally and colloquially with a definite article, as The Bronx. (The County of Bronx, unlike the coextensive Borough of the Bronx, does not place the immediately before Bronx in formal references, nor does the United States Postal Service in its database of Bronx addresses.) The name for this region, apparently after the Bronx River, first appeared in the Annexed District of the Bronx created in 1874 out of part of Westchester County and was continued in the Borough of the Bronx, which included a larger annexation from Westchester County in 1898. The use of the definite article is attributed to the style of referring to rivers.[13][14] Another explanation for the use of the definite article in the borough's name is that the original form of the name was a possessive or collective one referring to the family, as in visiting The Broncks, The Bronck's or The Broncks

I went to grade school a block from the Bronx River and still work just a few blocks east of it

So yes I am a Bronx boy thru and thru, even if the only farming I do is on 10 raised (4x8)  beds in the front yard
