First week almost in the books......
Billy Madison back to school song
speaking of books does this look like $770.14 to you? >:( >:( >:(

book prices are getting ridiculous, been trying to find cheaper alternatives on eBay and amazon, but all are about the same price. As always the school requires you to purchase the newest edition of each textbook. I'm thankful every semester that I served my time in the Navy to get a free education. Sometimes I get bummed out that a majority of my friends are done college and are all making good money now. Then again it puts a smile on my face that I won't be stuck with a huge amount of student loan debt in the future  :cooldude: :cooldude: :cooldude:

It always chapped my @ss to pay all that $$$ for books that I rarely ever used and then lost my butt on them again when trading them back in....(I should have been a school book salesman)...I only kept the books that were in my actual major......

You just need to go to school where this guy did and you'll learn ALL you need to know about "ingeneering"......... :cooldude: :D

Hey Reb,

I think those are the same books I used back in '77 just newer editions.  I still have them, but I'm sure the prices have quadrupled since then.  They are truly a ripoff.

If you got access to a copy machine.  Copy them, put them in three-ring binders and return them for a refund.  Takes time, but think of it at an hourly rate of return.

I did this on occasion in law school..... some folks thought their boring stodgy writing was worth a small fortune.  I had free access to an (industrial) copy machine at the time.

Some of these texts were authored by my instructors, who them made them required reading. Bums.

Also look at your Navy time a job experience. Something as valuable as the education itself. Many of my highschool friends that went to college are now asking me "would you like fries with that?" ANd when you ask them what happened, they'll tell you that the education is almost worthless without the experience to back it up.

I found many of my textbooks on Kijiji.  Ask your fellow students what web site most use to sell their old books.

Reb, keep up the good work.  It took me 20 years to fulfill my fathers dream of all his sons having a college education (he died 1 year before I graduated).  But, like you I served my country and utilized what ever I could from the educational benefits that I could get and earned.

Five years later I had my Masters and because of my experience I was able to get a fellowship that paid all the bills and I got to see Europe as a student.  My GI bill was spending money.

Again stay the course and keep up the good work.

Being an IL resident I am entitled to the Illinois Veterans Grant which pays for all my classes, I to use the GI Bill as spending money (Valkyrie Riding Road Tripping Money). I'm grateful I can maintain focus on classes and not have to worry about working. Thanks for the encouragement Charlie  :cooldude:
