I just got back from The 'burgh about 7:00 pm.  Went to attend my nephew's bachelor party.  I took the back way there on Friday, (saw a black interstate parked at the Cecil rehab hospital on Rt 50 in PA) went Rafting on the Youghiogheny river on Saturday and then camped over night.  Lot's of alcohol consumed (after the riding was done of course).  Then got to spend some time with my Mom.  I left Pittsburgh the first time at 9:00 today and got as far as Burgettstown, about 30 miles (took the back way home too) when I realized I left my phone at my mothers, so I left Pittsburgh for the second time today about 11:00.

Riding up OH RT 151 (great road) through the town of Jewett, a LEO coming the other way saw me going 40 in a 25 before I saw him.  He immediately turned around and hit the lights, I immediately pulled over and started removing my riding gear (it was HOT) and getting my credentials out of my wallet.  As the young officer approached, I immediately informed him that I had a CCW and was carrying a handgun in my locked trunk of the bike.  He took my License and registration, told me to stay away from the trunk, and went back to his vehicle to run my info.  A couple of minutes later he got out and said, "Mr.  Stratemeier, are you in the process of getting your plates transferred over to your Harley?"

I gave him my best WTF,O? look and said, "I don't own a Harley."

He looked at the bike again and said, "That's a HONDA???"

I said, "Yes sir."

He went back to his car and returned in a few minutes and said, "You appear to be a law abiding citizen, so I'm not going to site you."

I said, "Thank you, officer.  I appreciate that very much.  And I try to abide by the law."

He then asked some questions about the CCW permit and reciprocity between MI and OH, and I explained that according to the US carry web site, OH honors the MI permit.

While he was asking about my bike (after he realized it wasn't a Harley) I explained to him what it was and that it ate most Harleys for lunch.  He then said he is a rider as well.  I should have asked this before my Harley/lunch comment, but I finally asked what he rode, he replied a CB750 and Harley Somethingorother (my words, not his).

He didn't take offense and told me to watch out for the other drivers, because they are not watching out for me.

I sincerely thanked the officer again, and was on my way.

Not the way I thought it would turn out, but considering how the trip started, I considered it my lucky day.

He was a local officer, I don't know if I'd have gotten the same result from a state trooper.  They seem to be a little more hardcore.

Nice story, thanks for sharing.

Reasonable people, being......... reasonable.

Having been pulled over for speeding, I would refrain from reporting my bike eats anyone's lunch.   ;D

There ya go, thinkin' all lawyerly and sh!t!   ;D

But you're right.  What I found most amusing about the whole thing was him thinking it was a Harley.  I really was grateful that he didn't cite me and I'm sure he was embarrassed about it.

Great story, thanks for sharing.   :cooldude:

That is not the way 99.9% of my encounters with LEOs have gone but, I gotta admit, I was guilty every time.  (But One)
