Spent a long day today with Issac

It's now 8 pm here in Baton Rouge, still a steady rain but nothing like what we had for most of the day.  I made out pretty good myself, but one friend's rent house was destroyed and another friend had the roof ripped off his garage.

This is the most rain I've seen in a 12 hour period, nearly 11 inches today.  I've really got nothing to complain about, compared to some people's woes in this area.


This is the truck stop in LaPlace, La. where I get my gas when commuting back and forth to New Orleans.


This is a two and a half story house in Plaqumines Parish around the area where the levee was topped.

some people i dont understand, they will put their life on the line to "ride it out",,  even if its just a catagory one,, get the hell out!!! i went through a few myself down in galveston, tx and when they said evacuate, guess what? i was already in north east tx.

As far as I know the only places that had mandatory evacuations were areas below New Orleans that were not protected by federal levees.  We always get to see daring rescues of people who failed to heed the order.

Once you get as far north as Baton Rouge, the biggest risks come from tornados spawned from the atmospheric conditions.  We deal with that threat (on a less concentated basis) all summer.  I could be wrong, but I don't think there has ever been a twister this far north associated with a hurricane that's of the size and magnatude that comes yearly in the mid-west.  

Today's big challenge near my area comes from a dam in McComb, MS that has been damaged.  They have ordered a evac one mile either side of the Tangipahoa river.  It is in danger of breaking and a controlled release into an already flooded region has begun.

As far as loss of lives, there have been 2 confirmed deaths.  That is compared to the 1800 exactly seven years ago killed in Katrina.

Thank you for everyone's prayers and well wishes.  Other than having to pick up a lot of limbs in the yard, we made it through unscathed.
