Anyone use this throttle lock?

I bought this throttle lock a couple months back and just got around to installing it today. Have not had a chance to test it out yet, will do so in the morning on my way to work.

One of these came installed with the Interstate I bought.  Absolutely crap, crap, crap.  The component combination is not well made and it will rust on you.  Install one of these and you will not regret it!

I think I only gave 10 bucks for it. Thought I would try it out and if I like it ill get a better one. I have looked at those break away ones and like the fact when you hit the brake it kicks it off. Ill try this one for a few weeks though.

Been using that one for years, works just fine if it is adjusted correctly. Make sure you get the one for one inch diameter handle bars.  Hoser

+1 with Hoser!   I have had that same lock on my STD for over 8 years and never had a problem with it. I think I did have to adjust once back in 07.

Yeah, I have one.  It's okay and it works, but I'm not all that happy with it....it is cheap and you get what you pay for.  It'll hold speed for a moment or two, but I wouldn't trust it to hold speed going down the interstate for extended periods. 

I'd rather have something precision like the Brakeaway.  I just haven't found a reason to spend that much for a thottle lock yet.

It's what I use. Good for flexing the right hand or fishing out a smoke, but you have to pay attention, as it will slip after a while. I like it.

Breakaway would be nice, but for less money I bought an Audiovox cruise control. Just haven't installed it yet.

Had it on my Volusia and transferred it to the Valk.

Works fine.

If and when it slips it's time for an adjustment.

Have seen several of those on different makes-owners seem happy.
A point to remember is that they are not "cruise control" equipment. They are throttle locks and as such will not and cannot "hold speed" (unless you are on a perfectly flat road). They hold throttle position only. If you encounter a hill with a steady (fixed) throttle position you will slow down going up the hill (on your bike or in a car). A true cruise control will add throttle to maintain your speed up the hill-the reverse is true going downhill.
You can't compare results from one of these to the Audivox unit which is a true cruise control.
That said, they are great for being able to rest your right hand/arm once in a while.

I was thinking of getting a throttle lock, but not to excited about removing my iso grip after I glued it on really good. I ran across this on youtube and thought i'd give it a try.

It works fine. It does provide me with some relief for that long ride and I can remove it at any time. It is not all that pretty, but it does work and the price is right.

If you loosen the clamp on the clutch lever mount and slide it a tiny bit in it should give you room to mount the throttle lock, pretty good make shift lock on the video, though.

Looks much like a Vista Cruise Throttle Lock. I have had one on my standard for about 12 years.

As mentioned, its a throttle lock, not a cruise control. This has been a big help on long hauls. It does require some fine tuning to work the way you want it, not difficult. I periodically add a small amount of oil if it starts to bind up (maybe twice in 12 years). Easy to adjust to your need.

I used the reverse or hidden install method (I believe originally done by Chet at Rattlebars) which puts the bulk of the device to the rear instead of the front. Easy to engage and disengage from this position.

For the money I give it   

Again, on long hauls my throttle hand tends to get numb, this is a big plus to relieve that in a matter of minutes.

Also, if adjusted properly, you can make fine tuned adjustments while engaged to accommodate inclines and declines.

Do us a favor.  After you've got it on and checked it out some, come back (maybe a new thread?) and give us and update and a review.

Ill do it, used it this morning and worked great after small adjustments. I'm going to use it the rest of the season then I may go to a breakaway. Thanks for all the advice

You've made the right decision IMO. Have brakeaways on both my bikes. In a panic stop there much safer than the others.

That's the one I used. Worked for me for over 12 years without any hiccups. Hands down, the single best add-on to the bike. For me, anyway.  Yrmv,

That's the early version of the Vista Cruise.



 I used that one for several years, then upgraded to the more compact Vista Cruise that didn't have the spanner arm. Visible in this pic:



 A couple years ago I replaced the Vista Cruise that would not adjust on my wife's Magna with a Brake-away.  And not being able to stand her having a better throttle lock than mine, I replaced my VC with the same.  Very pricey but far better in function and appearance.

I'm not sure.  I have them documented on My Valkyrie page as 4500's, but I've changed the mount since then to shorter-arm ones.  Maybe I just changed the mounts. I've tried to document my mods there, but there have been quite a few changes that I missed.  The photo above showing the Garmin III+ is dated 02/02 - I've upgraded the GPS twice since then, and changed several other things in the view too.

I use mine all the time. I use it when I start the bike in the mornings and flip it on so the bike runs about 1500 rpms or so. I use it if I need to do something with my right hand while riding. I use it more then my cc.

We all use them, they work well for the price. The throttle will sometimes slowly close, but you can compensate for it. I installed a cruise control on my interstate ( really love it too) but I still use the throttle lock in certain situations. As for rust, your whole bike will rust if you let it.

My Valk came with a vista cruise that had the cross bar cracked in half. So it was not adjusted properly, but didn't matter cause I threw it in the dumpster. I have never like throttle locks and wouldn't even consider one unless it was a break-away but even then I prefer the electronic cruise controls. I have a palm rest that I modified a bit and have on the inside end of the grip and use my thumb to hold speed when my hand starts to bother me. Worked fine for 23000miles.
I WILL be installing an electronic cruise one of these days.

   I found this throttle lock from D2MOTO.   It's cheap so I figured I'd try it.  It worked for me but it would depend on the throttle grip you have.  It will slowly release.
   This summer I broke mine.   I epoxied the end and when it was still soft enough I placed on the grip and used cable ties through the holes to  get the right adjustment. Now it works better than the vista cruise I had.

Ditto on what Ricky Says.... I have been using the same one for 20+ years... if there is enough room between the throttle housing and the grip it can be put on without removing or changing grips....

I could not find one made specifically for the Valk, so I bought one made for Wing and made the center hole a bit bigger...... has worked well for 3 years.... and you almost cant see it....
