Never even a sip... To me buying an air cooled single pin crank V-Twin makes about as much sense as buying a mechanical typewriter today. Sure, it might look kinda cool, but not very useful...

Nothing against those who LIKE mechanical typewriters or any other archaic technology, just makes no sense to me.

I've never been a Harley fan [ Indians are a different matter though].. I have owed 2 .. One Glide in the early 70s and not for very long.. I bought a Knuckle with intentions to restore but ended up selling it for 200 times what I paid for it.. I did have a soft moment back in '93 and almost bought a birthday model,, that is,, until I rode one..

Yep   I have owned two HD's...loved them both, I have also owned a BMW and many  metric bikes. I enjoyed all of them. I love cool machines period. Having fun is having fun right?

When all I could afford were old Triumphs, BSAs, and Nortons, they were great. But time marches on.
I also had an old Sportster,...great looking bike but I couldn't stand riding it.

I've owned german, italian, english, and japanese bikes. Everything changed when I first rode a Honda GL1100. Then I bought my first Valkyrie. I still feel that a liquid cooled opposed four or six is the way to go.

I bought my best friends 99 Heritage Softail Classic fully loaded that had 1700 miles on it. He rode it in 99 and parked it. I paid $5000 for it last year, cleaned it up and got it running again, looked for a sucker ...uhhh I mean buyer and found a guy who traded me straight up for my 02 Valk Tourer with lots of extras and 40,00 miles! 

That is the only good use for a Harley. I did ride it for 1 month. It was the worst riding thing I have ever driven.

Yeah I did.
I used to get very annoyed by the constant belittlement that some HD owners heaped upon me & any other non-Harley rider. I guess I grew up or something because now I just feel sorry for them & "the attitude" has become a source of humor to me.
Besides, I get to ride a Valk & they are riding something else.

Wife has the best cure for a Harley Rider ever. She rides my old 99 Honda Shadow Aero 1100. You know the single pin crank Honda that Harley sued over. She had a Suzuki Marauder 800 and then she rode my bike one day. Came back and said sell my bike and get you another one, I am taking this one. Most Harley riders drool over her bike even though it is just the paint.

It was made in Maryville, OH (Did I spell that right?)

And I do not think you will find many other bikes that are more American!

Everytime we ride together it is always her and her bike that gets the attention not me and the Valk. ANd that is the way to keep a happy marriage.

I had a cobbled together panhead. It was a nice bike and all, it was about 5 bikes in all.
It was the typical story I wont bore you with. I loved it, then somebody offered me more money than I could say no to and a 67 Sportster with LOUD pipes. Loved that one too. A bunch-o-great rides and many long years. Ever "touch the buck" (hit 100 mph) on the 405 around 4:30pm?

Anyway, I had alot of weird bikes and some real cool ones. Weirdest was an Ariel 500.
When The Valk called me, I knew I was home in the first 5 miles.

I agree with those who pretty much like any "cool" motorcycle... but here's the thing... after years of admiring the Valkyrie, I obtained my own Fat Lady ('97 Black & Chrome Standard) about 10 months ago. Now, 14,000 miles later, though I still like all sorts of bikes, I can't think of any bike made that I would like to have INSTEAD of my Valkyrie. Owning a Valkyrie has sort or ruined me from owning other makes and models.... with a few exceptions, everything else seems sort of boring. I'm just glad the Valkyrie is nearly indestructable... she might outlive me.

Yep I owned a V-Twin for a few minutes... couldn't pass it up.
My Brother-In-Law was/is in financial distress and needed to sell his 87 XL1100 sporty and his 97 WR250 2 smoker both ran and were ride able but both were out of registration and the Harley was owed back around $700 to DMV so he offered both for $1,800 total and buying them kept all of his Craig's list idiots from showing up at my door since the bikes were stored at my place he had recently lost his house to foreclosure. Then I turned around and traded the Sporty for an 83 Honda XR650L built up and 3 sets of wheels and tires with a ton of spare parts, it was setup for fulltime street SuperMotard and dynoed at 69.5HP at the wheel. The seller of the XR was asking $2,500 and his wife really wanted a Sportster and I happen to have one, he took care of all the back fees and we traded straight across and I still have the 87WR250 I can sell for $1,500+

You have to compare apples to apples. You can't compare a HD Sporty to a Valk.  

I owned a HD Road King for years and put K's of miles on it. It rode great, handled very well and never ever broke down on me. I also had a HD Softail Custom that rode like a chuckwagon but looked and sounded bad@zzed, it never failed me either.

A Road King and a Valk Tour would be fair to compare and a Road Glide or Ultra Classic and a Valk Interstate would be fair to compare.

I now have Valk I/S and it's an awesome machine. But in all honestly it's just another cool and fun motorcycle. Will I ride it from now on.....no. I will buy some other bike in the future, and I will be had the thrill of owning a bad @ssed Valkyrie.

I have had my eye on a Triumph Rocket III for several years....looks like fun.

Since I got to ride CHP bikes for about 20 years, I couldn't knock them, if I did I might be stuck in the Cruiser all the time.   

Some of the Cruisers were pretty healthy in the engine compartment, it wasn't too much fun to drive all day everyday I was scheduled to work.  In town these overgrown Cuda's, and all the Dodge products for that matter sucked on trying to control them.    Get me on the open road and I defied anyone to try and out run me.

When we got the 1st Kaw's, we were in heaven.    A couple of my Brothers almost lost their lives on those Kaw's.    They were quick, but the brakes were a piece of crap.   I will say HD had some pretty fair brakes.   Maybe they couldn't get up too much speed that the brakes couldn't handle.  I remember a lot of the older HD with drum brakes...........    God forbid.   I remember the 1st disc brakes we got, no one in my Area had any confidence in them till the Factory came out and proved to us they would stop.

Monkymate, my wife fell in love with your wife's bike.  She wants to know how much you want for it.   I told her you would not sell it.  The paint job is gorgeous.  I wouldn't mind having that kind of a paint job on my I/S.

Well the paint was much cheaper than you would think. We had it done in two stages. The first was the bike and later we added the hard bags. The bike was $900 and it was done 3 years ago. Bags were put on this winter and were $350. Paint is House of Colors paint. It has held up well.

The painter is Kicken' Kenny of Rocket Rogers Motorcycles in Danville, VA. Great guy. He has a Facebook page and on the Rocket Rogers site there is a paint booth link to see some more of his work. He is a bit odd but a great guy and painter.

Back fender has an iridescent color changing soldier along with "To Honor my Hero's" then her Dads Name-Korean War, Here Friend that got her riding - Vietnam War and my name - Cold War. Also on the back of the bags there is a yellow ribbon on each bag with "Welcome Home" in the ribbon.

Her plate is TYVETS for Thank You Vets.

No it is not for sale and never will be until she stops riding.

Don't let my HD neighbor who has a 2003 Ultra Classic hear you say that last sentence.  He might attempt to kick your _ss, but highly doubt he could.  Man,  the minute you talk to him he knows all and is a total A-hole and thinks his HD is the king of the road.  He bragged to me once about how he has spent like 8 grand in upgrades since at least he admitted the stock 88 cu inch motor was a pooch and needed more oomph.  He claims he has smoked 1832 goldwing owners and took his bike to the track to see what it could do.  Yet, he never admitted how old the goldwing owners were or so as to not offend anyone here I should say 'how easy on the throttle' those older goldwing owners were since I know a stock 1832 goldwing will run down my stock Valkyrie I/S by just a tad.  He also never told me what E.T. times his bike ran at the race track either.  I told him so he could shut up blowing smoke out his butt I'll race you best 2 out of 3 for pinks, he shut up then! 
I could sell his upgraded HD for near twice what I paid for my stock I/S since I never would keep it, way too expensive and not worth the money for sure.
