Hell Yes. Looks like me in the last 30 years. Kidding, but I did sell / manage cars and trucks for 30 years. Made a lot on money, lost a lot of money. BUT, I  never told a "BLACK" lie to a customer to sell a car. I had a Local / Home Town Boy tell me I was too honest to be in the car bus. I guess he was right on, I sold out in 1994.  :crazy2: Car salesman take a bad rap for the most part, some need to be shot. They did not work for me very long. Forks need to do thier home worke before shopping for a Car / Truck. Case in point : Just brought Grandson back from Tx. to buy a replacement car that was totaled. Same car/ model, like miles, 2010 model Toy. $2800.00 lower in Ky.

Actually had a car salesman (woman) try to tell me once that the Huyndai Tiburon 4 cylinder was a "V-4" engine, and that the Cavalier Z-24 had both an upshift and a downshift light!   :2funny: :2funny: :2funny:

My favorite line from a car salesman.... so what are you looking to spend?

My reply........... I don't want to be rude, but I'm not telling, cause if I tell you a thousand bux, you're going to show me a car worth $750 and try to get a thousand for it.

By the prices, you can tell it's an old story.  I gave the same answer to the same question several times over the years.

Also, I'll never forget my dad preping me for buying my first car at 15.  No matter how much you want the car, show a poker face and be quiet.  If the price is too high we're walking away, and I don't want any argument about it.  I wanted that Carmen Ghia badly, but we walked away..... and the salesman waited until we got in the car and closed the doors, then ran over and said OK, $600 and it's a deal.  His stock went up that day.

Your Dad was a very smart man. You have probably done well over the years following that advise.
"Life is not fair, life was not meant to be fair. We in the submarine service are fortunate to learn this fact early in life, that life is not fair.."

Yes and no.  After two tours in the Middle East where you bargain for everything, I have had poor luck bargaining at the grocery store, 7-11, and most other retailers.   ;D

Evey time they ask me what credit card I want to use, I say........ yours?  Some are amused, others not so much.

When the car salesman asked me what I want for my car in trade, I always told them,"I don't care what you give me for my car, let's just talk about the difference in money".  They hate that too.  ;D

I just bought a car from a local dealership. During my first visit, the salesman wanted my name and phone munber before I left. I told him that he really didn't want my name and phone number, and he asked why.

I told him that if I gave him my name and phone number, he would probably call me at home, and I would write his name down and draw a line through it. He backed off, and we ended up with a good relationship.    ;)
