Who's running a Russel Day Long saddle solo set up w/backrest?

If you are, what backrest are you using?

Was looking to get a RDL seat but they don't offer a backrest with a solo configuration. 

Was wondering about maybe a Utopia backrest?

I'm hoping to be able to still run solo set up with my fender rack.

Appreciate any feedback and especially pic's if available.

I have a "Ride In" appointment tuesday, that is what I planned on getting.

Gary, have you had a chance to try an Ultimate seat? If you go on the "3 volcanoes ride", you're welcome to put some miles on mine. When opportunity knocks, yada yada.

Cool, they couldn't get me in for the same day turnaround due to scheduling and my last minute brainstorming. They can do the measurements but will ship the seat a coupla weeks later.

Yup, seen that too. In the telecon with their representative Kim, their backrest works with their rear passenger seat/pillion, not without. Refer to your sample pic, shown with passenger seat. Bummer! 

I didn't ask if it would work with a non-RDL passenger seat tho. Maybe I could make it work on my IS with my current Ultimate set up. I typically run solo 99% of the time so the added expense of a back seat for a travel pack or sleeping bag/tent combo just doesn't compute.

I had hoped to flip it between bikes (Std and IS) but can't imagine a no-backrest trip with my poor posture and aging back...  Mom always said; "stand up straight, shoulders back or you'll have back problems". I hate it when she's right...

Yup on that too. Thanks for the offer Michael. I've been running Ulitmate seats since about 2001 or so. Still am. I'm cursed with no "built in" padding, something I inherited from mom no doubt. The Ultimates were definitely an improvement over stock, Y2K stock, Mustang and Corbin, at least for me anyway. I've long since come to that fork in the road and it's time to try something else (short of silicone butt implants).

Scott in OK try to show me the path years ago, but I just wasn't ready to swallow that convertable sofa look. My a$$ has been telling me its overdue.

HB will pop his Utopia backrest on with his RDL from time to time...

I use my RDL back rest on my RDL SOLO saddle 
But then again they moved me up 6" and could fit the hardware in...
That was a FIRST for them ...

Would HB's be with a fender rack and the Utopia?

Looks like yours would definitely not allow for the rack...

Yeah after looking again and calling them today when they use our stock 2 piece pans the back rest is attached the the rear seat. Thats ok with me, I leave the rear seat on. My intention was to leave the rear seat stock and if I wanted at a later date have them do there thing to it. All they will be doing to the rear seat is recovering it to match the front. Still gona get the back rest.

Same to you. Let us know how it turns out, I had hoped to get the miles in on it for the Volcano Ride and then back to New Mexico. Oh well.

Looks good! Did it move you up at all, sure looks like it. I wonder if a fender rack would still fit?

I'm not feeling real confident on being able to do the Utopia B/R and the rack... I did see where some of the Utopia's were added internally to the stock IS seats, I may have to give them a call.

Hard to say if it moved me forward....I always road with the Corbin and I think it was kinda forward and too low, way lower then stock so it hard to compare. When I had RDL build the seat, I asked them to move the seat back as far as they could and raise it about 2 1/2"...I'm 6'4" and very comfy now with way more leg room. Also the stock passenger seat still fits if that helps with the rack question.  Hope this helps.

I would say...
Being it was a CORBIN pan.. 
There was NO  need to move  the ride  up for the hardware..
IT was all ready there... They just had to rebuild it as was....


In my case I needed to be moved  closer to the tank...
So it gave RDL the chance to put their hardware in for there  for me.....
