There is dumb

and then there is this guy. This happened in the early hours of this morning(10-1-2012)at a fuel stop west of Sprinfield Mo. on I-44. Seems that a trucker pumped in $700.00 worth of diesel into his rig and left without paying. He headed back east on I-44 and turned south on U S 65 out of Springfield. He then crossed over U S 65 and headed south in the north bound lanes without lights in an attempt to elude the police. By this time the Missouri Higjway Patrol was in pursuit. The trucker managed to put his rig into a ditch and tried to escape on foot to no avail. He has outstanding Felony warrants in other states but accordind to K Y 3 T. V. Missouri has first dibs fer now. Just thought i'd mention this so yer Monday aint too awfully boring.   RIDE SAFE.

After I googled it there was an update like 2 mins- so it beat the 6PM news! lol!  Nah, I think he's done as a truck driver. If he gets out, looks like he might be working on the docks!

I feel I should point this out...this career choice puts alot of responsibility on a driver. Just about anything bad that happens will end up your fault. Any mistake I make could easily kill someone or an entire family of someones. Hell, any mistake THEY make could end up with me killing them and being blamed. I am behind the wheel of an 80,000 lb weapon. I have to drive tired whether I want to or not. No choice with current logbood regs. I have to drive sick whether I want to or not. I have to drive in the shittiest weather whether I want to or not.

Yes I could refuse. And yes, my boss can and will find another driver to replace me. And yes, my mortgage is still due even when I get canned for wanting to be safe and responsible.

I have a family. I sometimes am gone for 3 weeks at a time. I have no insurance. I get 2 weeks of vacation until I've worked here for 950 years. Give or take. I would love to have a better job. However I made some not so smart choices in the past and this is what I have. I deal with it.

So with all this on my shoulders...I MAKE BETWEEN 30 AND 40K A YEAR.  That kinda sucks for being a professional anything. When good drivers like myself make a good living maybe things will change. But when companies only want to hire the dregs of society so they can pay them crap....this is the result. You are NOT going to attract quality people when you pay like it's fast food. How many people are going to want this much responsibility on that little pay. Think about it.

There are 3 drivers on the post that i know of and have drove all their life I'm sure can relate to the job. My son is a driver and not to make you feel bad, I would consider another company. He is making $70k running local- tri-state area and home at night. I thought the wages were higher in IL.
