Callibrating the fuel gauge

Since my odometer is my fuel gage, I callibrated it today.  Here's how I did it.
I packed my tank with gas this morning, threw a quart of gas in the saddlebag and took of to run it dry.  A very nice day for a ride BTW.  Cruised at speed limits all day, enjoying the weather on mostly two lane Kansas and Nebraska country roads.  I ran 185 miles, and switched to reserve as she stared to sputter, and stopped at the next gas I came to, and packed it full again, this happened at about 196 miles.  So, I think I need not start thinking about fuel until 150 miles or so.  It took five gallons.  I did not use my emergency fuel. l can get about 20 miles in reserve as it is an unmodified manual pingel petcock.  That's all the fuel gage I need.    Hoser

Works only if you remember to zero the odometer.

Yea that sucks! I lost my odo knob and trying to add when you stop for fuel 5x a day on a trip makes your head spin!

It's automatic, just as off and on is on the manual petcock.  There were no vacumn petcocks when I started riding, everybody did it.  Some of the bikes I've owned did not have a reset odometer.  That sucked!  Hoser
