Hey guys/gals,

Read the article and give me your opinions.
I for one hope the dealership gets what coming.
Sure they made a mistake but they went about trying to 'fix' the situation in the wrong way.

If global warming is happening...why is it so cold up here?

With a signed contract for 34k it doesn't sound like theft to me. I believe the dealership over reacted but not to the tune of 2.2 million, now if they had spilt hot complimentary coffee on his crotch well....

He ain't gettin no two point two outta this.

But he might settle for a free car, plus lawyer fees.  That would be a fair deal for a miserable evening, unless......... the evening included a romantic encounter with "LeeRoy".

I would sue the bastards, as well.  Plus, someone filed a false police report if they reported that the car was stolen, when he had a signed contract on the car.  The police should file criminal charges, too.  Since criminal charges probably wont be pursued, the only way that the dealership could received some sort of "punishment" for lieing and having this man arrested is through a law suit.  Don't put me on that jury.....

olddog1946

There will NOT be a jury.....nor will there be a trial...the man will most likely end up with an nice new and extremely cheap car... though I wouldn't advise him to take it to that dealer for any required service, lol.

The issue isn't really the agreement over the car.  Had the dealership told the truth to law enforcement, they would have advised the dealership that this was a civil matter and they could have attempted to file a suite against the man. The issue now is the dealership lied to police to have this guy arrested.  That is a major civil rights violation.  For someone that has never been put in that position, it is a traumatic experience to be arrested and taken to jail.  There may not be a trial, but I bet there will be a least a settlement over 6 figures...Even though this guys charges were dismissed, he will always have an FBI record of arrest for this instance.  The Feds records are not erased like the local and state records can be when records are expunged.

fudgie

I traded a truck in due to a divorce. It was a 01 Chevy and I was buying a 04 GMC. Deal was to remove all the old stuff and place it on my new truck. Nerf bars, bedliner, fender flares, mud flaps, etc. Will do pick it up in the evening. I go and nothing is on the truck. They said there was a problem.  :o They sold my truck before removing everything 1st. WTF?! And the guy wont return it!  ;D So I pitch a fit and they take a week to get all new stuff added to the truck except the fender flares which is $300-400. For 4 months I get the run around, oh we ordered the wrong ones, these are for a s-10, etc. Buy them and we will reimburse you. The F I will! So I go to my dealer, get a quote and fax and wait for a check before I really order them. Month goes buy and I call them. We never got it. So I talk to the boss and he calls the guy in. They finally send me a check and of coarse its $50 short then the quote I sent them. Never dealing with them again and they are a big dealership here in NE Ind.

Now you're in the world of the wolves...
And we welcome all you sheep...
