Broken wrist and ankle, but thankfully that's all...

Happened at 26 & Glade Rd. Story as he tells it is he was in the left lane, traffic slowed, he moved to the right lane to pass (don't do that...) and the lady in front of him merged right into his lane just as he was about to pass. She got dead in front of him doing half his speed, he got on the brakes too hard and down he went.

We just put a new rear tire on it Sunday, that tire had maybe 25 miles on it at this point. The rear tire locked up much earlier and easier than he expected. He panicked when that happened and grabbed himself a handful more front brake... He reacted poorly and is paying for it.

I bent his handlebars more or less back in to place and I was able to ride it home. It rode fine. Should be a fairly easy fix. Needs a tank, headlight, right rear turn signal, handlebars, brake lever, right grip, exhaust heatshields and a tip, right side cover (impact knocked it loose and melted to the exhaust pipe. It hit the ground, but I don't think it would have had it not come loose), mount for the foot peg and brake pedal along with the peg and pedal, and highway peg mount. Will probably see more in the daylight. Need to look at where the foot peg/brake pedal assembly bolts to the frame. The cruise peg mounts require that the stock bolts be replaced with MUCH longer bolts, it's likely that those bolts bent and that the peg/pedal bracket is fine. It weighs 3 lbs. easy...Amazingly, the airbox never touched the ground. Don't know how. Crash bars would've saved him some money.

Sorry to hear that, Chris.  I'm glad the injuries aren't more serious.

Tell him I did something similar when I went down in Pennsylvania last year about this time.  The pain in the ego will last longer than the pain in his body, but he's in good (and numerous) company.

Interesting comment about passing on the right.  I know it's not correct, but I find myself doing it more often over the last several years.  It's induced by the very important people (VIP) that choose to use the left lane for slow speed inattentive texting and cell phone usage.

I do, too, and for the same reasons. In bro's case it wasn't so much that he passed to the right, but the conditions under which he did. Left lane slowing was slowing to a stop, and I'm sure most of the folks in front of him also wanted to dart out into the faster lane. Speeding up on someone's right flank when they're just itchin' to change lanes, to me, is a bad idea.
