Someone on this board says I don't like HDs

Well he's wrong.
I have a problem with HD owners that feel that they are superior beings because of what they ride.
Motorcycles are nothing but machinery, and I've always played with machinery.
I also like art and sculpture, There is some art that I like better than others.

As a young boy I remember being in awe at the sight of motorcycles parked out side the neighborhood bar at the end of our street. There were BSAs, Triumphs, and Harleys; they were all painted black. Those bikes were owned by members of the "Highwaymen" M/C.

But I was really impressed by the HD Bobbers. Stripped down, raw and no flash, just the bare essentials; loud and proud.

So here are a few pix of one of my favorites.

I feel the same way . I remember the guys 3 houses down that rode with the "sons of silence " back in the late 70's early 80's. they seemed like the coolest . I saw 2 SOS guys at a gas station back in August in western IN. and they barely acknowledged me when I said "hey , hows it going ?"  My sister was always running around with the local Harley scuz crowd back then. Being an impressionable young man I thought that was the way to go .Times have changed and now you have to spend $30K to look trashy .They all would like to run me down now about my Valk but for obvious reasons they wisely keep the piehole shut . I've found over the years that all the "badass " bikers from them days turned out to be pretty dumb . I'm sociable to them but not so much in awe anymore . I've found that none of them really ride anyway. they "POSE" as riders but never leave town .I'm surprised they have a license and can get insured .Today I bought a used 3/4 helmet off a guy on CL for $20 . he had 2 Harleys in his garage . a new Dyna that he just traded an 1800 GW in on , and an 08 Ultra. He definitely drank the HD coolaide . said his wife liked to shop at all 28 HD dealers around IN. for tshirts and junk. Said how he really fell into the whole HD mindset and loved all the style . he had put 105K on his GW and still fell off the wagon . WTF ? I asked (politely) how he liked the Ultra handling over the GW and he said it wasnt the same but after a few weeks got used to it .So... he lost power , handling, reliabilty and comfort for  what ? he was probably mid 60ish. I said " hey , whatever you like ! "

My thoughts exactly... I would love to have one to ride local and back and forth to work... save the Valk for when i really want to ride.

Oh come on reed. 1 or 2 more valks woudnt hurt. But I think I remember your wife say you spend too much time and thought in your bike, cant you just put gas and oil in it and ride? Haha I rember that pretty clearly sitting at bob evans in bedford on our way back from the dragon round up. Think my wife instigated it.

I read an interesting thread on another forum a few days ago....

Mind you, it was on a Harley board, but I was really impressed with most of the contributer's objectivity.  The topic was the comparison of the Road King to the Valkyrie.

Some of the replies spoke highly of the Valkyrie, pertaining to styling, reliability and price.  Others knocked the chromed plastic parts (I'm inclined to agree here).  One guy even acknoweledged that the Valkyrie motor would last 100,000 miles, like that was something unheard of.  

I almost had to jump in and update his information on Valk engine life, but I remembered that I had the right to remain silent.

Of course, there were a few responses that sounded like chants at a rock concert: HARLEY...HARLEY...HARLEY.  I took it, that their vocabularies were limited to words found on all of their t-shirts.

I felt good about the thread.  I expected it to be biased, but the people on there that actually knew something about bikes didn't trash our Valkyries.

Real riders know about the Valkyrie, same as the ones that knew all about my V65 Magna. They respected the ride and earned my respect in return.

Had the same comment made about both bikes, different times.  "Those are pretty fast, huh!" All  you can really say is "Yep!" With a big Texas grin on my face.

motorcycles are what they are ... when I see mine , all laid out low , mean lookin and solid black with the big tank and hard bags , solo seat ,fender bib, cruiser bar and all that big ass chrome engine in the front with those 6 pipes runnin down the sides ....Like  a T bucket or some other type Hot Rod  on 2 wheels . Harleys don't do that to me , sorry .

Sorry, I really wasn't trying to threadjack, was just trying to think of some other example of something some people like and some people don't, but no... Those do nothing for me. That tattooed they might as well have guy parts down below for me...

But my point was, it doesn't matter what I like or what someone else likes, as long as we don't try to force that view on the other guy, who cares... If ya' like girls like that, hey, more power to ya'... If ya' like a Harley, hey enjoy it. Does it really matter that I don't like those?

It cracks me up when the Harley guys dont wave back.
I dont care what you ride, what flavor of koolaid you drink or who you wake up with.
Tammy asked once what I thought when the Harley guys didnt wave back. We were at a bike night and there was a bunch of em around. She figgered maybe theyre too snooty and I told her it was probably an accountant who was just afraid to let go of the bars.

I wave to all motorcycle riders. If they don't wave back, no big deal.

When i owned my valk, HD riders waved but kinda pulled the wave back when they saw it was a Valk.

Now when I ride the Vstrom most HD riders wave with no problem.  Maybe they think that the Vstrom is a BMW. They don't seem to have a problem with Teutonic made bikes, WTH. 

Or maybe it's just because the 'Strom is so ugly that they wave in sympathy.

Got nothing against Harley D motorcycles.     Just don't like most of'ems attitude.     I have found that I wave at most Harley D riders that are wearing helmets.   They usually wave back.    I usually will wave also at unhelmeted Harley D riders with mixed results back.    The Harley D riders with the ape hangers......forget it......they aint waving.     If they want to ride Harley D bikes....and have the attitudes.....I'm proud for em.     One of these days they'll make it to the big boy store and get a Honda.

It's funny how some people have to take 1 small thing in life and use it against other people to lift themselves up over others . whether its the brand of MC or type , make ,model ,yr of car or truck they drive. It's political views and religion, it's job or career , tax bracket , brand of shoes .....race ,size of tits, # of tats ,and on and on. I hate it when people try to talk condescendingly to me , that pisses me off faster than anything . None of these things make anyone better than another .What makes you better is when you step up for someone when they are in need without thought of payment in return ,and when it's least expected ,from someone out of the blue ,with no witnesses. You do it for them , but you do it for you , it's called self respect. People who stand on anothers shoulders to be the bigger man , have little self worth in my eyes .

I don't know how you guys can be so insensitive to the HD brand....I mean, everyone calls them Harleys and almost no one recognizes good old Davidson....I mean he must be suffering from such a inferiority complex there isn't enough xanax? in China to sooth his soul.  So in all fairness I propose we give him top billing for the next year as a tribute to sucking hind tit for many years,

Man....you guys need to lighten up.   I've been riding motorcycles for 45 yrs and it's always been a game that the Davidson group and the rice burners pick at each other.....it's just for a laugh.    Man....if you get your feelings hurt that easy you don't need to be riding Davidson's.      One of these days  I'm gonna buy me a Davidson and then I'll be shooting you  rice burners the finger when you go by......ha
