Kick stand problems

Yesterday I went to put the kick stand down and it sort of "limped" out to position. Didn't think too much about it until I went to put it back up and it had no spring pressure. Got off and there under the bike was the over-center spring and a broken bolt of some sort.
I called my local Honda parts man and he had no idea what I was trying to describe. I went online to get the parts listing and it doesn't show up in the parts diagram.
Photo here. - in case the photo didn't upload it is about 2" long with the center section being hexagonal with one end threaded (this is where it is broken off) and the other end machined like a 10-penny nail head. Any ideas?

Ideas?  Yes you have a broken kickstand spring bolt.  It happens.  New one is not hard to install

While you're at it buy a spare spring too.  If that bolt breaks while out on the road, or you don't notice it, you will be springless. (is that a word?)  I keep a spare of each in the bag... BUT, I also have a dead blow hammer in my bag and not many do...

No dead blow2 hammer, but do carry the spare kickstand parts in my bags.

             replace the bolt , the spring and the nut (new) ...
                            lube  the thing ... forget about it

Funnest part is getting the old bolt out, depending on how much is left sticking out.  Mine broke in a tightish left hand uphill curve.  Metal clanging noise motor cuts off cuts back on feel banging under the bike, scared the bejesus outa me.  Rode to my stepsons house holding the kickstand up with my foot.  Used a bungee cord too hold it up

Normally that bolt gets broken by accidentally placing the jack under it while lifting the bike.

When installing the spring, bend it double and insert nickels in the spaces. It will make it longer when strait and easier to hook up.
I bought all four the dealer had on hand when mine broke.

I know I'm bringing back the dead with this old post...but...

Today while I'm 50 miles from Yankton, SD heading back from Sturgis 2014...went on the shoulder to put on rain gear and the bolt must have caught on the grass.  Found both the leftover bolt and spring on the ground. 

Looked up the trusty VRCC forum...and here's the fix.
