I would like some suggestions on replacing the OEM horn on my Valkyrie Standard.

About any route you go to get a legitimate traffic alert device will require the use of a relay.  I guess that rules them out of the plug and play category.

I have the wolo bad boy on my Phatt Ghurl.  Had a guy coming up a ramp in a dodge diesel pick up on a cell phone A/C on and trying hard to replace me with his pick up.  One blast of that horn FINALLY made him realize i was there.  How do i know his A/C was on?? 95 degrees out and his windows were up.  Point being for as small as they are they have a large sound.  Check E-bay and Amazon-lower prices and that's where i bought mine-Amazon.  And at times i can fart louder than that stock horn.  RIDE SAFE.

I have his duals and even they're loud enough to get everyone's attention. Saved my butt again just yesterday from someone in a cage who thought he wanted the same spot on the road that I already had. Woke him up pronto!

I went through two Stebel Compact Nautilus horns (same as Wolo Bad Boys) in two years.  Not that I wore them out from overuse, they just didn't hold up to the hostile environment even though I mounted them from the sidestand cross member, upright, and behind the engine.  Others have had better longevity than I did, so don't take it as gospel.  After the second one failed, I went with BigBF's Quad Horns and couldn't be happier.

The wolos and stiebel types of air horns do fail if put under the bike,  I have not had any trouble since I did this. They need to be protected from road spray in wet weather Hoser

No, Im sorry....ANYTHING is louder than stock.  But I have a Stebel Im pretty sure its way louder than stock

IMHO ONLY.... car horns are the best route to go. I don't know of anything plug & play that has a good enough improvement over stock to bother with. Air horns have a slight delay & are expensive. Some are un-Godly loud & may defeat the purpose of keeping you safer by scaring the bejeezus out of car drivers.    A for sure consideration here in Florida!    
Car horns are cheap, durable, & are a familiar sound to inattentive 4 wheeled drivers albeit a tad louder than they were on the car. Mounted under the swingarm makes them louder than on a car. Six years & 50,000 miles & they still work great. Added bonus to mounting them out of sight under the SA is it cleans up the motor area of the Valk. Relay is a must but anything worth doing is worth doing right.  

Welded a 5/16 X 1" bolt to the kickstand X-member to mount. Used a locknut to secure & pointed the horn openings to minimize splash but they still got drowned out once in a Florida toad strangler one day. Dried out a couple days later, still working fine! I've installed car horns on all 3 of our Valks, Kim's SS750, & even on my Triumph R3 {under the LH sidecover}. A bit more effort on the Rocket!  


Again, just my opinion.

BTW, the horns are from a early 2000's Lincoln Town Car or a Grand Marquis/Crown Vic. They have a neat V shaped bracket for easy mounting. Clip the wires up past the connector if you are getting a salvage yard set.

I think, without knowing for sure, that Big BFs horns are "car horns"...

The best thing about them (other than that they sound good and loud) is that
the spill out of the package with Valkyrie specific mounting brackets and
installation instructions

+1 on the car horns.  Twenty bucks or less at the wrecking yard gets you a pair of horns of your choice and the mount for free.  They are easy to mount by drilling one hole and taping it.  Also, they are completely out of sight.  A relay should be used, but that only comes up to the basic wiring 101.  Quad horns are great also and come as a unit with wiring, but considerably more expensive...Jim

I found this link the other day....some were doing this mod to their Stebel air horns and someone stepped in and made these improvements.  This allows you to mount the compressor in a dry, hidden location and the air horns can then be placed under the bike or behind the sidecover, as needed.

This also allows a short burst with the stock horn with the adjustable 1/4 or 1/2 second delay.  Seems to be a nice package.

Yes you do need a relay, I found that out when I fried my horn button with a long blast.  Hoser
