Carb's and gas - I'm so #^~>}*! frustrated!!!

I am so frustrated right now...I have 2 Valks...one is leaking gas again after numerous gas line and carb problems...my other one I'm going to have to take the carbs off and rebuild due to being gummed up...my brand new riding mower is having carb problems after sitting unused for FOUR weeks...got other power equipment that I'm winterizing with Stability this weekend...I don't know if it's the poor quality of gas nowadays or just my chitty luck with carbs...but I'm to the point of seriously thinking of selling my Valks and getting something fuel injected...sorry for the rant...

There is help here for your Valks, dont panic.

As for the Fuel Injection, it is great as both My 2002 Fat boy has it and my 2007 Electraglide.

You will find the alternative a bit pricey, so hang in there man.

PS The Gas sucks because Obama mandates a lot of this Corn Oil we burn to get votes from the mid west.

go outa yer way to find ethanol free gas... supposedly a product from he parts store called startron eliminates the ethanol prollem.. my buddy owns a small engine shop and he says he cant believe how many carbs he is having to rebuild or replace because of ethanol

I think it is because those blue bikes are very uncomfortable that far down South.  Send them up here to Yankeeland where they belong and they will run just fine.

Run a shot or two of Seafoam through there before you tear out the carbs for a rebuild... you just might get lucky. 

Also, every 3rd or 4th tank, run a shot of Seafoam through there just to keep those tiny passages from clogging up. 

Lastly, if you can find "real" gas, it is worth the extra few pennies.  You'd be amazed at the difference it makes on the Valk. (and likely, other carb'ed engines also).

Ethenal free gas is any piece of lawn equipment. And motorcycles arent supposed to sit. Where is the one bike leaking from? Startron is awesome. Bit expensive but works really well. Just put a few shots in per tank ful and you wont have a problem with it gumming up so fast.

Seafoam is the ticket Mix 1 ounce to gal on all gas for small motors, if bike is going to sit for a wk or so I do the 1ounce to gal in it also and have not had any problems, been doing this for about 3 years now.

I mix stybil in my gas cans for all my small stuff. The valk gets her tank treated with stybil for winter storage. In fact at this time of year I start treating the Valk at each fill. In Minnesota you are never sure when the D.O.T. will toss the salt. Also when I get into November I will stop on the way home and fill with no-ox gas and a round of stybil.

I've run a whole bottle of Techron and Seafoam through my mower..it is improved, but still needs choke to run, indicating some blockage remains.  Leak on the Valkyrie is on the left carb bank, between the 4 and 6 carbs.  When I was letting it run on the side stand, it would drip onto the chrome spark plug cover about every 5 or 6 seconds... I'm just frustrated...I don't have time to ride much and it seems like every time I go to ride, there's a problem I have to fix before I can go riding...and invariably, it seems to be gas related.

If you can pinpoint where its leaking from, like, between carbs or from the overflow on the bowl. Sounds like either floatvalve is stuck and leaking from overflow or fuel line where it goes from carb to carb. Might want to check and make sure float bowls are tight. Shame you arent close, i could fix that quickly.

Keep at it it should work it's way to better running condition.  Have read on this issue or similar issue to run with techron and/or seafoam full bottle and run choke on full in 5th gear at very low speeds say 25-35 mph for several miles and just might work for you.  As far as lawnmowers, snowblowers, etc.  I have had a few issues and have had to take part of carb apart and spray like 1/2  can of carb/choke spray bottle in the nooks and crannies and seemed to work.  Those fine orifices one tiny speck of gunk can make those little small engines not run right.

Hope it's an easy fix as far as the Valk is concerned but 6 carbs can be a pain to diagnose.

I had a stuck float on one of my right side carbs, middle one. I'm a truck driver, so sometimes my Valk sits, no choice. I wanted to get the carbs rebuilt to stop the leak, so I saved my overtime money and put my Valkyrie on a flat bed tow truck. I sent it down to a shop that specializes in Goldwings and Valkyries. I've known the owners and the mechanic for many years. The bike gets down to the shop, about 40 miles away, and the owner calls me and says they can't make the carbs leak. Nothing. Nada. So I go down and pick up the bike, pay him an hours shop, which is way cheap compared to getting the carbs rebuilt. The only thing all of us could figure out is that the tow truck ride, all the bouncing around, must have un-stuck the float. It's run fine since. I run Sea Foam thru it and start it all the time when I'm home. And yes, this ethanol gas sucks big time.
