Do you prefer to lean right or left?


Personally, I touch the pegs in either direction, but I find I'm much more comfortable with a long low lean to the left.  I've seen that Preston appears to prefer the right.

As far as riding, I can't put my finger on why, but I'm more comfortable on left hand corners then right ones. Maybe it's because if I overshoot I'd rather go off the road than a head on collision with oncoming traffic? Just a guess...

When i was in Japan i practiced flat tracking on the course we had on the base. I was faster going left than i was going right. Out of the 15-18 guys in the club only one was faster going right. These days i try-not always succesfuly-to not ride fast enough to scare myself.  If i dab a foot i roll off the throttle a smidge. RIDE SAFE.

I have no idea why but, I'm more confident on left leaning curves than right leaning curves.  Know this, I try to push myself more on the righties but, I still haven't developed the confidence to push it as hard as I do in a left handed curve.

JMO, pretty sure it feels better because you are trying to manipulate the throttle with your right and that is just eaiser when you are not stretching for it.

Thinking about this, a left and a right, both of the same overall angle, the left would be at a less severe angle because you're on the outside of the curve, whereas a right would be a tighter angle because you're on the inside of the curve...

Hoping some of our brethren from backwards countries (UK, Australia) will chime in and see if their preferences discredit or add credence to my theory...

I have dragged the cruize pegs on both sides. I think there is a study about this and the final word had to do with the riding on the right side of the road. I think I am comfortable either way because of learning to ride in the dirt. I didn't start riding on the street until I had ridden for a few years.

In many years of riding and teaching riding, it's my experience the vast majority of riders do better in left turns than right.... and left or right handed makes no difference.

Probably use my left leg because I usually leave the bike in gear while stopped and like to be able to apply the back brake so I can take my right hand off the grip.

Agreeing with Momz on this one, tendency really showed up when learning to ski. Repetition builds confidence, both on & off the bike. Center/side stands are good indicators on the left...

I, also, am more comfortable in the left turns... and... I'm left handed.  I don't think it makes much of a difference what hand you favor.  Most of us left-handers are ambidextrous because we had to grow up in a right-handed world.  Many of the things I do, I can do with both hands close to equally.  
I think it makes more sense that most favor the left curves because of the throttle hand on the right.

My theory is that we in right lane countries have more practice with long low left turns, but there are still a lot of riders that prefer to lean right.

More comfortable with sharp left turns, but practice rights everyday after getting the mail.  I do a u-turn to the right just to practice. 
Going at highway speeds, I don't favor either right or left.

Yes this was discussed a while back, and I now can remember something I had forgotten before.  Many many moons ago I wasnt very comfortable at all with any right turns.  wasnt that good with hard left either, but left felt more natural for me as well.

So I practiced and I practiced way more on the right than the left.  I watched the ride like a pro technique and practiced counter steering/leaning.  Again more to the right than to the left. 

Soon I was very good at leaning and turning sharp either direction and one day I couldnt remember which way was the uncomfortable way.

So still to this day left or right either is as natural.  somehow though, between the last time we talked about this and now I tried to remember and Im pretty sure it was the right turns I had to practice more than the left.

Practice, practice, practice.

My highway peg has been severely scraped on the right side.  My footpegs are shorter on the right side due to grinding down.  Obviously, I prefer leaning right.

My good buddy Rainman is sending me a set of pegs as we speak, should have them tomorrow. He saw how bad mine were at Smokin'Joes FCR.This is my 3rd set on this bike, and the rights always wear faster than the lefts (I'm right handed BTW)  I believe my left will cut a piece of paper (or leg)like a knife.

I found I'm better at right turns.  Coming from flatlandia, the only curves are on and off ramps.  The vast majority of which are right handers.  I've got to work back into the left handers when I find some.

Could be.  I am right handed and more comfortable in a left turn but never low enough to scrape a peg.  I slow up when my toe touches. Don't know why, but I usually ride with my toes pointing downward.
