Replacement shocks

I'm needing replacement shocks for my '98 Tourer.  I have searched the site and I think I'm more confused now than before I started looking. 

The shocks that are on the bike now are Progressives but I am not sure which model.  They are to the point that they are not providing any rebound and it's like riding without rear suspension at all.

I typically ride one up but occasionally carry a passenger.  I am in th 250-260 lb range and enjoy riding in a "spirited" fashion.  I would give up some comfort in favor of performance.  I would really like the bike to handle better in the corners.  Right now I'm having to coddle it since the suspension is so poor.

I don't know what the standard length shocks are for my bike either and apparently my search skills are greatly lacking.  I can't seem to find good answers to any of my questions by searching on my own.

I have looked at the Progressive 440's and that is what I'm leaning towards.  I have also read that some people have used Interstate shocks with good luck. 

Any thoughts, opinions or advice???

13" is the stock lenght of our shocks. The I/S shocks are, from what I've read, heavier duty.

i blew out my rear shocks after 100k and got yss replacements

Njvalkdan, I hadn't heard of the YSS before.  They look kind of pricy. 

Obviously I want everything for nothing but I'm willing to pay a fair price for a quality ride.

Right now I'm leaning towards either the Progressive 440's or a pair of Interstate shocks.

Another popular option is the works suspension shocks.  They are valved and tuned for your weight and/or passenger.  You tell them what you want and they do it.

I've got the 13 aluminum with dual rate and adjustable rate suspension (ARS) billet and really like them.

Good used set of Interstae shocks haved served me very well on my Tourer.

NJvalkdan, just out of curiousity which set of YSS shocks did you get?  There is a big difference between their low end ($299) and their high end ($899).

  listen to jess.  he pointed me to 440s that made a big difference in my ride.  that and the king big boy.

Are the Progressive 444's what everyone is talking about when they say "440's"?

Found the 444's for about $625.

No, they WERE 440s, but a quick search of PS does not show 440s anymore.  Doesn't show the 444s either.

The 440-4221 was the part no for the HD springs 440s (but now seems to be 444-4221) (B-C means Black or Chrome)

However, the 440s still seem to be for sale on HDL

440s are good, I have 440s with HD springs. I'd jump at the chance to try Works shocks
or those whacky YSS ones, especially since people who have tried both like them even
better...
