I've been at war with the crows,, I hate them.. I've shot a couple hundred of them over the past several years.. I got a bug in my fanny and had a rare soft moment and started building and setting out Blue Bird houses.. I know,, call me soft and a wuzz.. I was surprised one nice morning to watch a crow purposely attack and kill a family of 'my' Blue Birds.. It was actually amazing to watch.. So, anyway, the war began.. That low-life welfare idiot kinda pi%$%8d me off today and I saw a herd of crows out back so I pulled out 'Swifty' [ I like that cartridge as well as the gun that goes with it].. I got 3 at about 400-450 yds before they figured out what was happening.. I thought that was pretty good considering how smart those winged rats are.. So,, did I mention that I feel better now.. I guess its basic human nature to have to kill something every now and again..

So how many did 'Swifty' kill with that one shot.    I sure hope you weren't wasting cartridge shells to get them.

Only way to go with crows is Buckshot.    Get a bunch at a time.

I know, I got my ass kicked for blowing holes in the side of the barn killing crows.    The hogs loved eatin them.   I finally set in the loft of the barn and shot out the hay door at them.

HEY PATRICK,  I used to use an old boom box with a crow owl fight cassette tape and a owl decoy under the trees with a shotgun, they come in mad as hell.  try it it's a blast.  T.P.

Several things..
Have you ever tried to eat a crow ??  I've eaten crow as probably many of us have,, but,, to really EAT a crow !!  Can't be done !! They are nasty..

Kill some more deer,, I've been done for the year..

Decoys for crows ??  Long story.. My good friend and neighbor [ the one with the mean dogs] picked up an owl [ appeared to us to be a Great Horned] in the woods one day.. It must have run into something as injured itself.. He stuck in the corn crib and looked after it for a few weeks.. After a while it was back to its old self and we would trap pigeons for it.. You could let a pigeon loose and it wouldn't go 10ft before that owl had it.. Anyway,, that owl became friendly real quick so we tried taking it after the crows.. He would turn him loose and that owl would make a couple circles around us and come right back.. That drew crows from the next county,, most of the time we could never see where they were coming from, they would just appear.. We shot hundreds of them because of that owl.. One day the owl just decided to leave.. Sonny would always leave the crib door open and one morning the owl was gone and never returned.. He was a pretty kewl bird,, he would walk right along with you.. If you stuck your arm out he would jump up or fly to it,, that was painful so you learn quickly.. When we were shooting crows he just seemed to know exactly what to do and the shooting never bothered him..

I guess I should also say that crows are a real PITA around here.. All the towns/cities are having problems with them.. Apparently they haven't been shot like in years past.. They used to be shot by the thousands if not millions while they migrated over Lake Ontario so naturally some folks decided there needed to be a season and limit.. Since they are not being shot as in the past the numbers have increased so much and they have decided [ like the geese] to spend the winters in this area rather than keep heading south.. They are now creating health hazards so interest in shooting them has increased again over the years.. Since we lost the live decoy we now have to resort to using owl decoys.. They work,, but,, not like the real thing did.. I guess we need to dress up a remote control airplane and try that..

Seem to remember a .05 cent a head bounty on crow and blackbird growing up in Illinois. Korean war vet with a .22 cal six shot revolver-50 rounds-50 heads. Also remember him saying he'd do it fer free cause he didn't like the little sumbitches anyway. RIDE SAFE.

I had a bunch at a friend's farm/ranch/property with man made spring fed lakes.
He was going blind and hadnt fished the lakes in 7 years. Big fat stupid bass, perch and blue gill.
All the crows I wanted to get and .50¢ each. All summer long with my Benjamin air rifle .22.
Great time.
BTW, a flock of crows is called a "Murder of Crows".

Hate to rain on your parade, because I sure don't blame you for shootin crows, however, be careful who you tell that to. I'm pretty sure Crows are covered under the migratory bird treaty, making it illegal to kill them. Had a friend that was giving a tour at a mine site to some of the bosses, there were complaints about crow droppings on equipment, friend picks up a rock & nails a nearby crow, killing it. Friend fired for breaking the law, killing a bird protected by the migratory bird treaty. An over reaction to be sure. Just beware.

Crows are smart and challenging to hunt. We have a season on em here or at least we did the last I knew. They can tear hell out of a corn field from what I hear. If that corn field feeds your family you'd be real happy somebody took the time to reduce their population. They will learn to avoid calls pretty quickly but I'm told you can get a bunch of them by hiding in an evergreen tree with a distress call and a shotgun till they figure it out.

Is Swifty a 220 Swift?

As far as eating everything you kill, I'd be glad to freeze a coyote or two if I get any this year and mail em to anybody that wants one. I warn you though, they smell BAD.
