I'd love to have a dime for everytime I've went for that 6th gear in the 14 years I've been ridin' the Valkyrie.

Whenever anyone asks me how many gears I think a bike should have, my answer is "one more" ... I look for 7th on bikes with 6, and always for the 6 on the Valk.

I took my brother-in-law's Kawasaki bagger out for a spin some time ago.  (The new 6 speed 1700 cc version of the Kawasaki Bagger.)

I have to say... that is the FIRST time I have ever shifted into what's called "overdrive" on a bike... and did NOT feel the need for another gear.

While I'm not a fan of the big V-Twin... I'm a HUGE fan of that transmission!!!

Don't mean to hi-jack this thread but I see you live in Broussard that's the same town Warren ( Strider ) live's in..... correct ?  . Do you know him ? How's he doing ?

On all three of my bikes, I'm ALWAYS looking for 6th. Especially the KLR. We should be past 5 speed

transmissions by now, just like we left 4 speeds behind. It would really help fuel mileage and wear

and tear on bike engines. It'd be nice if those big sixes of ours loafed around at 2500 rpm's. The Valk

and the 1800 Wing have  enough torque to do it.
In 5th gear.... looking for 6th

I'm making up for all the times that I tried to shift into 6th gear on the Valk.

My  Vstrom has a 6th gear and it definitely makes the L twin  feel like it's just poking along relaxed.

Nope. Doesn't happen to me any more...

Well, maybe once in a while, just not on my modern bike...
