WTH is up with people how could anyone think this is even the least bit funny. What a loser. :tickedoff: I am appalled and disgusted.

During a work trip to Arlington National Cemetery, Lindsey Stone, of Plymouth, squatted next to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, sticking up her middle finger and pretending to scream next to a sign that asked for "Silence & Respect."

The photo went viral after she posted it on Facebook, prompting outcry from veterans and a response from her employer, the Cape Cod-based nonprofit, LIFE, where Stone helped adults with disabilities.

"We became aware that one of our employees had posted an offensive, inappropriate photograph on her personal Facebook page," LIFE wrote Tuesday on its Facebook page.
"Some people see things that are and ask, Why? Some people dream of things that never were and ask, Why not? Some people have to go to work and don't have time for all that."

Let me know when she passes, I'd be glad to offer her the same show of respect.  I fail to understand the "thinking" behind something like that.

From her employer's facebook page:
"We wish to announce that the two employees recently involved in the Arlington Cemetery incident are no longer employees of LIFE. Again, we deeply regret any disrespect to members of the military and their families. The incident and publicity has been very upsetting to the learning disabled population we serve. To protect our residents, any comments, however well-intentioned, will be deleted. We appreciate your concern and understanding as we focus on the care of our community."

Seems fitting that her Karma ran over her Dawgma.  :)

Lots of people have paid the ultimate price to give her the privilege/right to do that.  And her employer has the right to do what they did.

"for our own amusement."  ?    wow, what a sick sence of humor.

i am not a military man.  when we visited the Tomb of the Unknown Solder in Arlington i was in tears.  my daughter and i watched the changing of the guards, both her and i were very moved.  there are actually a couple tombs of Unknown Solders, from different wars, they are all very quiet solitude areas around Arlington.  it saddens me to even think there are idiots here in this country like this woman.  i hope someday, someone pees on her grave and is shown the same disrespect she has given.

At first I thought, "How on earth did she get by the guard ?"

Then after seeing the pic I realized that she hadn't squatted beside the tomb itself but rather near one of the signs that are posted throughout the cemetary.

Still, Arlington National Cemetary is Hallowed ground.

How someone can walk among the graves of so many brave soldiers that gave their lives for us and our freedoms and feel ANYTHING other than sombered, saddened and sobered is beyond me.

Maybe she didn't realize that she was disrespecting the life of every soldier that has given their life for this nation.

But she was and she is paying for her lack of respect now,

BTW, did anyone scroll down and read the comments ?

This one really takes the cake:

The tomb of the unknown soldier was established after WWI and does not contain the remains of any Revolutionary War combatants. The Revolutionary War was the only necessary and moral war in our history. Therefore, the woman was exercising her right of free speech at a site which contained the remains of someone who fought in an immoral war. The questions are whether or not she has free speech and whether someone who participates in immoral wars should get respect.

To professorchris2,
I read this once on a bumper sticker and thought it was the best way to respond to you.

IF you can read this, thank a teacher.  If it's in english, thank a soldier.

It may have been just a bumper sticker but, it speaks volumes.

To me, she is in no way the tratiorous bitch Jane Fonda is and will always be.  Sorry, but the comparasion is vague at best in my opinon.

I'm afraid if I saw the flag upside down, I'd stop and ask what the distress was.
When he said what he did in the film, I'm afraid, I'd take the pole off the wall and see how far up his ass I could shove it.   Without the flag attached however.

People say it is his privilege to fly it that way and I say it is my privilege to do what I said above.

I lost my dad on Iwo Jima, and mom almost lost me in Korea.   So screw the bastard, I didn't fight for him to have that privilege.

Good for your family's service RJ.  :cooldude: My dad was marine in the invasion of Guadalcanal and when most of his fellow soldiers were killed he was then sent to the invasion at Iwo Jima.  My uncle was killed at the invasion of Normandy.  My cousin was killed in Vietnam. I was in Navy.

As repulsive and disrespectful these activities are, I think my family's service was for a country where people have the freedom of certain repulsive activities without GOVERNMENT intervention.  If their employers, friends and neighbors punish and reject them for those activities then good for them.

Right, wrong or indifferent, what she does on her own time, and then making it public for all to see, reflects directly on her employer as it represents the kind of employees that they hire......and indirectly, reflecting her actions and values onto the company's actions and values.

As long as she's an "at will" employee and not working within the confines of a union (collectively bargined contract) or an individualy bargined contract for her employment, the company can fire her for any reason, at any time and without notice.

It may not seem right to fire an employee for their off-time activities, but it's all about perception.  If the general public associates her in any way with the company that she works for, then the company can and most likey will suffer from her actions.

Not matter how one views her off-time activities, the company can fire her anytime they want.

I didn't reread the article, but I believe it said she was there on a work or company trip.  I feel this is much worse than the toolbox that posted the video harassing the chikfil a worker and that asshat got canned too.  It goes beyond what they did, it shows they lack good judgement.  there fore if I was the boss, I would not want them making decisions that affect my company.  I can forgive them, but they can also be held accountable for their actions and behavior.

If she was there on her own dime, then I don't think she should have been fired, merely shunned and treated with the same respect she showed for our heroes.

When you go into a Federal Court House and stand before the judge you know that its a serious place. You would never think of doing this kind of action because your butt would be gone. That threat stops disrespect immediately but shouldn't we know the seriousness of a place without that threat? We have become a temporary people forgetting what we are and wanting the immediate gratification that comes at any cost instead of thinking of what those came before us thought important and looking out for the good of our fellow man. Forgetting values and why we should restrain the impulses that are in us. What are the consequences of letting our every desire be done in a public view and not considering that these things may hurt others or lead them down the wrong path. Even forgetting how, the reason, and what the foundation of the very values that this country was established on to give them the right to do this insane stunt.

Only visited once, not sure from the photo how you can tell if she isn't near the  guard. Seems I remember the signs at the rear of the memorial building, as you come off the path from the place where the tour busses drop you-within eyesight of where the guards march.
Of course if what Pup says is correct, it does not diminish the disguting display by the woman being discussed.
