Mary recruited me to do the Walmart black Friday thing on Thursday night.    She was right......it gets crazy in there.    I was to get a trampoline and it wasn't too bad because they gave us numbers in the line.     She went to somekind of mattress topper, a foam type thing that was a great steal and it was first come first serve.    There was a crowd around the pallets of these boxes and when they blew the whistle it was just horrible.   Mary grapped 2 of them and fell to the floor hovering over them with people trying to take them away from her.    Once the cops broke it up she put them in her basket and had me put my hands on top of them a s people were stealing them out of baskets farther down the line.    Every one I saw that had these boxes had someone with their hands on top of them to stop theft.    We got 900 dollar tv for 600 and a trampoline we saved 108 on and a telescope we saved 30 on and those mattress toppers that we saved 150 on so around 500 savings.      Walmart had about 10 cops on site that would have to break up the quarrels and basket snatchings.    Unbelievable.

I used to go to the library surplus book sale on campus. People donate books to the library,
and if they have too many copies, they go to the surplus sale. There used to be this bookstore
owner that would go, I referred to him as "the breathing man", he was so focused, he was
hyperventilating, going down the line quickly pulling books (even ones that people were
looking at) into his box - I guess he could quickly identify ones he could make a big profit on,
all books were $2 each. He was always near me, I mostly only looked in the area where
old Southern History books would be...

Sounds like there's hundreds of breathing men at the big box stores on Black Friday.

We finally upgraded our 19 inch tube teevee to a 32 inch flatscreen last year on Cyber Monday...
no breathing men there  :cooldude: One breathing man was too many for me...

You would never catch me in that madness.  Get beat up to save a few bucks.   :uglystupid2:

I went about 9-10 years ago to Best Buy camping out at 2 a.m. for a laptop I wanted saving about 300 bucks off at 299 price instead of 599 price.  I was about 20th in line opening at 5 a.m. handing out tickets so chances were very good to get one.  UNTIL, the illegal immigrant Hispanics unable to speak English and whatever else came out of woodwork behind me jumping the line outside right in front of me to get tickets for the items.  I yelled at them to get back and even pushed a few to the ground and told them to get the F back.  Heck,  I couldn't beat the piss and push all of them immigrants back to Mexico there were dozens.  Needless to say,  about 3-4 minutes later the guy handing out tickets who was mobbed by those yah-hoos behind me who didn't deserve the tickets was out of my laptop about 6-7 people in front of me.  I told him he should never have handed the tickets out to those people who butted in line in front of some of us but like most Best Buy employees, he didn't care.

I vowed NEVER to do that again it was like 10 degrees out standing outside in line for over 3 hours for NOTHING.  I still do the black friday gig at Walmart/Target, but here is the deal:   GO ONLINE THIS YEAR WAS GREAT at Bestbuy and Target and whatever other place at around 2- 6 a.m. on Thanksgiving for the stores opening at 9-10 p.m. that Thanksgiving day and I got everything I wanted this year for the family including Xbox games, ipad, ipod touch, ipad case, and even a samsung laptop all at Bestbuy ONLINE same price as store ordered NO problems in my easy chair with free shipping and should get all products delivered to my home safe and sound hopefully in a week or so.

Moral of story:  Besides 2 TV's only available in store at Best Buy (and other places) ALL items on Black Friday can be had ONLINE that night if you stay up or get up early to order online no problems.  People I know need a life and one person at work camps out Tuesday at midnight after work at Best Buy every year stores open Friday at midnight and besides those 2 great deals on TV's,  I can order all ONLINE instead of wasting hours and days standing in line with the idiots.  The guy who does this at work every year even told me he was 5th in line at Best Buy NOT first at midnight Tuesday night after work if you can believe that, totally UNREAL.  To spend all day Wednesday and Thursday for 48 hours inline camped out with ice fishing shacks, heater, stove, cots, is totally crazy if you ask me to save a few hundred bucks.

The days of standing in line for items are going to be gone shortly with the use of the internet and shopping online.

I would rather pay the price of a product than the price of the madness.  I probably can do without both in most cases.

I did the Black Friday thing this year.  Went to Bass Pro Shops Outdoor World.  Got there at 0515 after they opened at 0500.  Picked up the gun safe and ammo cans and headed to the register.  Waited 30 min in line to pay.  Went to receiving, picked up the safe and was back home by 0630.  Cup of coffee, shower, and off to work by 0730.  Saved around 100 bucks and my sanity by avoiding the before the store opens crowd.

I hate store shopping on regular days....... Id rather be examined by a leprous proctologist who finished with three fingers than go on that day.      (borrowed from Big Bang Theory)

I did do some Black Friday shopping.....  at my local Shop N Save grocery store early Friday morning.  I needed a few groceries and they were having a Fuel Perks Promotion...  earn .30 cents off a gallon of gas for every $50.00 spent.  Got close to $6.00 in fuel perks... which equates to a few free fill-ups (up to 30 gallons at one time... the truck and 3= 5gallon gas cans).  So Gift Cards for most of my "Gift Receivers", a few for me too.... and some free gas to boot.  No lines, no fighting and I made my way back home without incident.  And those that I give the Gift Cards to can get what they want at that store, whenever.   I don't do gift anymore....  just gift cards.
