Congrats! Something similiar happened to the wife recently, she was trying to get a new job, told 'em her minimum salary she'd take, and they said they're sorry, that's below the minimum for the position, she'd hafta take more if she wanted the job...

She took it... :)

Well done.
Now go and get all that part time work you were doing/looking for so you can work for yourself.

I worked for an rv dealer/used car lot for just over a year. I did all the electrical stuff outside of regular house wiring, chassis stuff, generator repair, engine service and repair. Brakes, all that crap. Had a blast but was 108 miles round trip every day. Started getting old plus with no bennies, i was asking for trouble. So, i moved on. And so did he. Sold out and moved to western north carolina. Lol

I'm very surprised they offered you 50 cents more than you were asking in this sucky economy.  I got a job offer 1 buck lower than I was willing to take and the guy said sorry,  that is my limit I can offer you.  Turned it down, his loss, not mine.

Even where I work now it sucks the brand new employees wet behind the ears not knowing one thing are getting paid ONLY about 25-50 cents lower than me being there 7 years with tons of job responsibilities should be getting paid 2x salary for sure.   Moral:  Good paying full time jobs with benefits are few and far between and if you find one, there are 1,000's of applicants applying you're extremely lucky to even get a call for an interview.

Good on you musclehead, hope it works out well.   On a side note,  my youngest son went back to work last week.  A new company has started up, which is a supplier of a product for a very large, national company her in the US. His job is a union job, he started out quite well for a 22 year old with no experience. He came home and I ask how his day went, he said,"boring"! He said we mostly do nothing all day, then a little work, then a lot of nothing, then go on break, then a little more work, etc.etc.  I said, "what do you think about union work"? He says,"it's a joke". So I asked,"what if we had union workers building our house(we have been working on it together)? He said,"well, it would take 10 times longer to do, and cost 10 times as much to do it".   Not my words, from the mouth of a babe.  :crazy2:

Gryphon, what is the cost of living like in Alberta compared to the Midwest US?
Probably significantly higher, but the malls are full of people spending money.  The unemployment rate in Alberta was 4.4% in September 2012.

thanks all, I'm kinda surprised too. I'd be perfectly happy with what I offered to work for and this has never happened to me before.

I'm luck enough to have extensive sewing experience with an industrial machine. doing these kinds of things.
it's just a flat piece of sunbrella with 1/4 plastic piping sewn in the long sides, easy pleasy.

they have an older gent that works for them that does the upholstery, I plan on learning all I can from him so I can start doing automotive upholstery on the side :coolsmiley:

That attitude right there is why you are going to be a real success!
Look how many don't want to learn anything.
As for learning from an "older gent"-isn't that why you joined this board? There are more than a few here, and I bet they learned from an "older gent" on their way through life.
Good for you, musclehead.

Good Attitude Congratulations :cooldude:

Hey Musclehead do you think a retractable awning (similiar to your picture) would work on a house? I have 2 back windows that take full sun most of the day. It would be nice to have something that would retract, so it's not in the way when we are on the deck in the evening?
Looks like some of the Florida riders are meeting tomorrow near you, I am going to try to make it. Would be good to meet you.
If you can't be a good example: be a WARNING!!
