I spend a lot of time wondering around the woods alone at night and like it that way.. Never had a problem with a cat,, but,, have had the coyotes circling.. Some here know I'm at war with the crows,, I also hate coyotes and kill every one I can..

I have lived around these big cats for the last 40 years.  The little town I lived in in NorCA had pic's in the local paper of two cats laying around a grade school about a quarter mile from our home (during summer time).  Pic's were taken during the day.   I have had these cats watching me work in the woods and walking trails.  One needs to just make some noise and let them know your not lunch.  Of course having someone a lot slower than you also helps.

These big cats are not just in the "big woods" states.  Although it was in the neighborhood of 20 years ago, I have seen two of them here in west centeral Oklahoma.  Had my 6X scope centered on one of them in the fog one morning thinking it was a coyote sitting there.  Did not realize it was a big cat until he whirled around and dropped off into the canyon behind him.  There was no mistaking that big long tail when he turned to leave.  I have heard of other sightings, but I have only seen two, probably becuse I don't hunt much anymore...Jim

Timber you need to do like Tracy...here's a photo of LadyDraco leaving to go berry picking up on the mountain this summer....the bucket is for the berry's, the hat is for the sun and the .45 is for the bears, mt. lions, coyotes or anything else that is a potential threat...oh yea the boots are for the timber rattlers...



She really doesn't need the .45 because this guy a 2000 lb longhorn steer always shows up when she goes up there and stays with her all the while she does the picking, he actually leaves the herd to go with her....so if you need one I have several for sale...

Fudgie...that is a 1972 Ruger long colt, thats been stripped of its bluing, I do have the Uberti .45 long colt Yellow Boy...great shooting rifle and the action is so smooth you think its broken...the other rifle is a 45/70 a deadly brush gun, I have shot groundhogs at 175 yds with it, kicks like a mule...

Nice.  I got a winchester .45 colt that kicks worse then my shot gun. Been looking at alot of 6 guns the past week. I like the looks of the Uberti but not sure I like the firing pin on the hammer. Ruger super blackhawk is my fav so far.

WELL, I have seen one of the BIG YELLAR CATS even down here in ALABAMA, only 2 miles from my house, thought it was a big dog until it turned and I saw that long tail, and flat face.  GOD BLESS

When I was deer  bowhunting in the '60's  in the area that David was talking about,(Grayling/Lewiston area) ,  I also carried a Ruger Super Blackhawk in a Ruger flap holster..  It was legal then to carry during the bow hunting season.

I didn't like the odds of going up against a black bear with a recurve.

No worry.  Michigan DNR says there's no breeding population.   That must mean there's no danger (or double the danger due to NO BREEDING POPULATION).

What is scary, I live about 1/3 mile south of I-4 and 15 miles east of Tampa, last year had a cougar hit by a car directly north of my house, they said he came through my neighborhood before he was hit. Believe he was living in the 30 acres behind the house. I have seen a lot of critters back there, but never a cougar. Needless to say, I only go back there armed now.

On a second story, 40 years ago we were hunting a cat close to Whitehall,Ill. he had killed several cows  and killed 4 dogs a friend had. We were tracking him, just after sunset in the woods. Talk about creepy, we had followed his tracks for a couple miles in the snow, when all the noises you normally hear in the woods stopped as if you had flipped a switch off. Then we heard him, he had back tracked and was following us. Scared the three of us bad enough we got the hell out of there. 2 days later a neighboring farmer killed it. Not some thing I care to experience again.

M wife saw one run across the road  at dusk a few weeks ago.  My brothers has seen them for a few years  now.  He lives about 30 miles away.  Oh and get this the PA game commision say's there arent any in Pa. Yea right.

Theres talk of a panther running a few counties down here. Seems like every spring it gets brought up. I have seen bobcat tracks around here.

This is why you should never go in the woods.......You could be shot with a 45 long colt,beat over the head with a bucket and kicked in the ass with large leather boots. All by a nice lady wearing a huge hat.......You've been warned.
