Windshield height

Any thoughts to rule of thumb for the height of your windshield for optimized placement?

Also, I remember reading years ago for an easy headlight placement, based on where the light hit on your garage door/wall.  Anyone know that "trick" or something similar to ensure optimal leveling of the headlight?

I prefer the windshield top to be at eye level when riding. You can't see squat through a screen at night in the rain and need to be able to see over it. So mine is set so I have to stretch up just a smidge to see over it.

I take my bike out onto the street when dark to adjust it for the best illumination then use the house wall or garage (if I had one) to adjust my running lights to ensure they are lower than the headlight.

Personally I prefer mine so that I can see about 2" above the windshield. Especially now that I have Laminar Lip in stalled on it

I agree with the top of the windshield being about 2" below my eyes.  When you're sitting on your bike, holding it upright, have someone measure the distance from the floor to the centre of the headlight.  The low beam cutoff line on your wall should be slightly below this level.

Nose height so you can just see over it.

Rule of thumb has always been tip of the nose.... sitting comfortably, not slouched and not at attention either.  About the same as 2" under the eyes, unless you're a neanderthal.  You always look just over the top but can see way over in bad conditions when necessary, and can get down behind it too.   If you wear a full face all the time, you can go low as you want, except buffeting.

See the manual for aiming headlight, and get a new bulb first if yours is ancient.

At 6'2" with most of that in my waist (short legs), I found the stock shield produced a stream that hit me right about mid forehead.  I replaced that with a Clearview, adding an extra inch on top and on each side.  For me it works great, no ducking in showers and less buffeting all around.

By the way, I am going to sell my stock shield.  Some minor swirls, etc. but no deep scratches or gouges.  If anyone is interested, shoot me an email.

I do like it, it is definitely making a difference in the buffeting, although not removing it entirely. But hen again, I probably should have gone for the wider option in stead of the narrow one that I have now ( 18" I think ). All in all well worth the money

Sigrun:  What kind of shield & which model Lip?  I have a fats and after an hr & 1/2 reading on the Laminar Lip I think I want one.

I emailed and asked about m/fats & was told use Suzuki Blvd 90, but I like the 17 1/2" Univ. better. Looks like what was on my BMW K1OORT.

Pull a string straight and level from the tip of your nose and mark it. For me it was 17" measured from the top of the headlight cutout.
