Maybe    I've rode that road since the early 80's long before it was " cool " and I've never  seen anyone that was obviously wasted....I'm sure its happened...You can have a beer now at Deals Gap in the restaurant.

Yeah, you're right, Joe. I've never had the pleasure of encountering the Dragon and I'm sure it would be a challenge for even a sober biker. The tale of the tree would probably encounter a lot of factors---wrong place at the wrong time, excessive speed, poor judgement, lack of attention, road conditions(wet leaves, gravel), etc.

Yeah, you're right, Joe. I've never had the pleasure of encountering the Dragon and I'm sure it would be a challenge for even a sober biker. I rode the dragon for the first time this year at joes fall color ride. I was really expecting it to be worse than it was. Its a fun road and wished I lived in the area. I wasnt a speed demon through it but enjoyed the back to back corners and even ground my pegs down a bit. That ride was a great time and ill be back next year.

Rode the dragon back in '04, the summer after I purchased my Valk. We were down there for a Honda Hoot. I was worrying about my back tire, which I shoulda changed before we even left for the trip to The Great State of Tennessee when someone came up to me and asked if we had ridden the dragon yet. I said no, he says to me, "just trust your tires". Not really what I needed to hear. We did it anyway, no problems, cept for a couple sportbikes somewhat in my lane once or twice. I'm sure I didn't set any speed records though.

1st time I rode the Dragon was on a 1000 Gold Wing.

Last time was on a 84 Hardley.  That was a bitch to ride.  Didn't have enough power to do anything except just hang on and enjoy the ride.

Oh yeah, this was the one that got traded in on my MGM.    I don't know why I never got on the Dragon with it.   My riding buddy & I rode together, his Yamaha and my Harley.   He was afraid of the Dragon, he did a little wipe out on it on this pass, and somewhere has a Indian head front fender light on the tree.

He was the one who always had to have on clean undies, just in case.   The only wipe out he ever did that I know of he wouldn't of had to worry, cause when we got him back to the top of the little get off and his slide, they were dirty anyway.

Since I couldn't keep up on the Harley, he was up front showing off.   Told him on the CB he best back off or he was going to go down.   He said BS, I know how to ride this crap, and bang, down he went.   Bike slide on the road, he went over the bank and down about 30'.   Only thing hurt was his ego, and the right side of his precious Yamaha.

I rode dirt bikes as well as street bikes for about 30 years. Last 25 years have been street only. Use to really be crazy on the dirt bikes. Rode a lot at Turkey Bay area which is near Aurora, KY (Land Between the Lakes). Had a great time, but when you ride like a wild man in the woods, you are going to go down and I did several times. As I aged, I tried to slow down and not ride so hard but just couldn't do it. The older I got, the slower the reflexes and the more falls. I also found as I aged that it took longer to get over a hard fall, so I sold the dirt bike before I killed or disabled myself. Had enough thrills to last a lifetime on the dirt bikes, so now I just like to cruise and tour. Been on the Dragon twice and while I see why some guys like it, it's just not for me anymore. I would rather ride the gentle sweepers of the Blue Ridge Parkway and enjoy the scenery. But hey! Just like the oil and tire topics, we all have out own likes and dislikes and I personnally am gald we DON'T all think the same.....that would be boring. Ride Safe. Hef

He left out some pretty cool details ( 1 ) he was'nt hurt ( 2 ) that Valkyrie was in 3 foot of water for about 3 1/2 hours when we finally got it pulled out of the 10 foot deep hole it was in it fired right up and he rode it close to 300 miles gettin' it home. If he had'nt made " sport " of my yellow bike the other night I'd tell y'all what a sharp spotless bike he rides today
