Heat Pump freezing up........must be a leak??

Ok, it is about 22 F outside......Outside unit is freezing up.  :tickedoff: Must be low on freon again!! ARGH!!!

Should I turn the thermostat to run on EXT HEAT???  What's the best course of action?

1st thing I'd do is get the freon checked and filled if need be.

That will kick the electric strips on and it will heat up fast......but it's hell on the electric bill.....I'd get that freon pronto... :cooldude:

You may want to have a HVAC tech check into to it, I also have a heat pump.  The unit should have a sensor that reverses the flow of hot freon to the outside unit to deice the unit.
When the outside temp goes down to 20 degrees or less, most heat pump can not heat your home, the strip heaters are expensive, but will keep your home warmer. Hope this helps.
