New Years Day Ride 2013

Well here goes another new year, 2013 ... traditional with me has been a ride to kick off the new year, only missed 2 in the last 10 years due to icy roads so with the temps over 40 today I headed out for a cruise. Couldn't round up any takers on a slightly soggy run so it was solo this trip. Still had a urge for some mountains and with the weather closing in I opted to run around the top of Lake Murray and cross the 2 Saluda rivers, settled for Little Mountain and some back roads in the area.



Stopped off at Reunion Park in Little Mountain, nice festival site and has been used for some GWRR events in the past. Interesting side note, recent elections for mayor ended with the top vote getters declining, even the write ins. Guess the 100 bucks a year salary is not so attractive.




Left town and visited the new nature preserve at Rocky Branch as I passed over the mountain. Some of you might remember the ETV show, Nature Scene , hosted by naturalist Rudy Manke, he recently dedicated this really nice park. It has a picnic shelter and restrooms, great place for a pit stop.




Passed thru the little town of Prosperity, old clock in the town square is neat and still runs. The town drug store in the back ground has really great hand scooped ice cream cones in the soda fountain.

Rain picked up and I called it a day, still got in the traditional run and hope you all have a very Happy New Year with lots of safe happy miles in the coming year !

I was thinking about you and Mount Mitchell this morning when I got up... it was raining pretty good
then and still is... glad you got a ride in... new saddlebags  and fairing

I remember Mount Michell very well.  It was pea soup fog the last time we were there.

Got my ride in today, only about an hour long.
Oh ya also went for a ride yesterday.
Probably go tomorrow to!
I know Ca. sucks. But we have the best weather in the country.
