No more wheelies while speeding in Illinois--among other things

It's wonderful that Illinois legislators not only had time to "try" and keep us from CC this past yr, but had the time to take care of some runaway problems!!

I was just reading about new Illinois laws that went into effect on 01/01/2013.

No wheelies: Lead-footed motorcyclists found guilty of doing wheelies will have to pay up: Senate Bill 3452 will impose a $1,000 fine for driving a motorcycle on one wheel while speeding. The law also dictates that handlebars can be no higher than the driver's head (current law sets the bar at the driver's shoulders).

So all you hooligans don't try this stuff in Illinois, and take down those rediculous Ape Hangers while you're at it, cuz if we can't catch criminals, we might as well increase our revenue on frivolous stuff.

Exactly, Oss...cuz if the front wheel didn't come down straight at say, 66mph, the rider would have far more to worry about than a fine.

I've had one come past me at ninety with his front wheel in the air.  Seemed to me he was perfectly in control.

I wonder, do lawmakers actually consider any real statistics when passing these silly laws or do they just legislate from an emotional base?

So what I'm reading is we increased the height of "legal" apehangers and riding around on 1 wheel is A-OK so long as you're not speeding?

This state needs to pass more laws. Headlights on when wipers are, driving/texting, using your turn signals, moving over for vehicles on the shoulder etc. etc. etc.

Oh wait, we DID pass those laws. And once some legislaturd got his moment in the sun for signing the bill into law, into oblivion it went. There are soooo many un-enforcable un-needed laws on our books. Ridiculous.

For the upcoming I-13 i'm going to spend the saturday night before the festivities start sunday at my brothers place in Illinois. If it wasn't for my brother going up to I-13 from my lacasa there is ZERO reason fer me to be in Illinois.  And besides-i don't get to ride with my brother near often enough.  Just have to make fer damn sure i dasn't wheely my Phatt Ghurl while i'm exceeding da speed limit.  Since leaving Illinois i've lived in Texas,Colorado and now Missouri. Other than visiting my brother and sister i gots no real reason to be in Illinois. And that fer dang sure ain't a bad thing.  RIDE SAFE.

While I couldn't care less about the ape hangers, I do wonder about the wheelie while speeding thing.   Seems to me that if one wanted to make an issue of that particular act, wouldn't or couldn't that fall under some kind of reckless driving statue?  

Wanton endangerment or how about just being stupid while operating a motor vehicle?  

Don't get me wrong, I'm with Oss on this one, but did they really need a special law?  

This is what happens when legislators have too much time on their hands and don't really want to try and balance the budget or little things like that.

Yet another reason for all those IL hooligans to come ride WI roads.  LIke we don't have enough IL people already coming into WI stealing all our jobs?  Well over 50% I bet of our workforce where I work 15 miles into WI from IL border are from IL since they all complain there are absolutely NO jobs to be had where they all live in IL.

Knee jerk, just like everything else that happens anymore. If they can't deal with the more "real" issues they may as well dabble in something really pressing.

ON the flip side, anyone doing a wheelie on the xway needs to be hammered. They not  only put themselves at risk but everyone else too. I have no problem with that. As for the apes, cmon. FWIW

hahaha...that reminded me. One of the first tickets I got when I turned 16 and purchased my Mustang was for doing a burnout/smokeshow. Exhibition of Acceleration.
