I've never seen these out in the country before a few months ago, they put them in out here about a mile from my house. Could ruin your day , or night , if your not wathching out, the thing is this is a really smooth crossing, and 45 50 is the usuall speed.

This is the "mound" that Blue Mound Tx. was named after, when the cattle drivers from the north heading to the stock yards could see this in the distance they new they were almost to hells half acre!

I would guess it's to keep people from going around the crossing gate arms when they are down.

It llooks as though they have already had some vehicle interaction... Ouchie!!!

I agree that they were to keep people from going around the barricades.  It looks like there are poles on the other side. Why not put them on both sides?
Poles with reflectors should be a minimum.

Yes they are to keep people from going around the arms, but out in B.F.E.? and yes they did have the reflectors, look like they have really messed up some cars/rims already, and only  about 2 months old.

Those things are moronic.  A liability lawsuit just waiting to happen.  In the case of going around the crossing gates the railroad could defend themselves by claiming there was intent to circumnavigate the safety devices... these are extrinsically dangerous to folks that probably have no idea they are about to encounter one.

That's ridiculous.  They made it look like just part of the line.  People shouldn't be crossing that line, but that's a high price to pay if you drift a little, or dodge a hazard in the road, (even after verifying that there's no oncoming traffic), to hit a 5 inch (?) high curb in the middle of the road.
