Non-Valk related Question about different shift work

I pull a tanker delivering gas and diesel in the Dallas/Ft. Worth metromess.  Right now I work nights 3pm to 3am 5 days a week with 2 days off.  My company is letting some of us work a 5 on 2 off/    5 on 3 off schedule.  I will still be on nights, but my days off will change.  Has anyone worked this kind of schedule?  I was concerned about how much money I would lose if I went to this.  I get paid every two weeks and the shutoff is every other Thursday at noon.  My other half says I will be losing money.  I'm not too bright on how to figure this out.  My days off are Monday and Tuesday.  I would like the change for the 3 days off and even the chance to make a meeting every so often and maybe a ride or a wrench party.   But I make between $170 to $240 a day, depending on how many loads I pull.  On a month with 2 or 3 paydays in it I stand to lose some serious money.  Any help would be appreciated

Your wife is correct. By my figuring you would work 35 days less in a year. At $170 a day that would be about $6, 000. I figured that by dividing 8 into 365 to equal 45 work weeks compared to to 52 work weeks. So that's 35 less days that you would work.

I too drive a tanker here in Southern California. I work for a major oil company. Our shifts are bid by seniority with set days off. For instance, I work Monday thru Thursday nights. Weekends off every week. Yes, I have  a lot of seniority to get that shift. The only advantage to a "rolling" shift is that you will get weekends off once in awhile. If that is important to you, go for it. If not keep the shift you have. BTW, be careful out there brother.

Yeah, I figured it wouldn't work out.   Right now, I need to catch up on some bills.  Thanks for the replys.  I already called my work and told them to take me off.  I'll just have to figure out something for my riding time and other activities.
