I was probably one of the last people in the US to get a flat screen, HD TV. By the time I commit to purchasing one of the new ones to which you refer, the price on those will have come down, too.

I maybe the 2nd from the last to get a flat screen TV last Xmas is all.  My 27" picture tube was starting to go after 20+ years use, but still visible just a few lines on bottom is all.  I'd like to see the new flat screens last 20+ years but highly doubt most will last more than 10 years unfortunately.  Luckily for me the price of basic 32-40" flat screens by the time I bought have gown down in price a ton vs. just a few years ago.   My 32" cost 180 bucks and my 40" cost 250 both good deals or so I hope they will be lasting 10 years hopefully.

I don't see the need nor want for a 3D TV or even a TV screen over say 50" in the biggest of rooms and who knows what else will be coming out for crazy higher prices.  As long as the general public buy into the need and desire to have the latest and greatest,  this trend will continue.

TV screen for viewing purposes and not much sense to spend more on an LED vs. LCD TV.    As long as the general public buy into the need and desire to have the latest and greatest,  this trend will continue.

Just this summer I replaced my 10 yr old rear projection with a slightly newer and a little larger model rear projection.

120" would do just fine, though =)

Within the last 2 years I have bought 4 High Def televisions, 3 for us & 1 for Mom & Dad, the largest of which is 37".
Good enough for us!

No flat screen here nor in my future. TV went out in 06 and got a 'boxy' one. I only get the 'farmer 5' so its good enough for me.

I also just bought a new TV.  LED LCD 40".  Paid the same for this TV as I did for my second-hand 27" TV 19 years ago.  The new one isn't perfect, but comparing it to the old one is like comparing the old one to a 14" B&W TV.  I almost have the HD channel numbers memorized for my favourite stations, and I try hard to hold my tongue when my wife is watching the SD channels of those same stations.

I think I'll hang out in this thread for awhile. I get size envy when I go to Costco. Reading here, I feel, well . . . satisfied. If I get feeling the need for a larger size I'll just move closer to the one I have.

Hmm, well I really like my 65" flat screen TV.  Don't much like my cable, way too many channels of crap I really don't want to see but, when I do watch TV, I really enjoy the HD Big Screen.   Hell, I haven't been to a movie theatre since I got it.   They've got a new 80' out now but, I'm happy with what I've got till it breaks or quits. 

I grew up with three stations ( Blk and White TV), a  big antenna up on the roof and that indian chief on all night till 5:00 AM.  By then I had chores to do.   Didn't have a "color" TV until I was in middle school.  Yeah, I probably do watch too much TV but, it's mine to watch and enjoy.    I've even hosted a few final four and Super Bowl parties in the past but I don't think that'll happen again.  No one sticks around to help clean up.

We've got a 65" HD, but no cable service. I hooked a computer to it, and we stream Netflix, Hulu, download content, stuff off PBS, etc...

So the triplets get to watch Big Bird really Big, and the spousal unit uses it to play World of Warcraft...
