Just need to vent or go break something. The new truck has no CD drive so I'm just trying to swipe  some tunes from youtube and stick them on a flashdrive for use in a USB port in the truck. Frustrating. I'm a real dumbass when it comes to this stuff. I'm  probably a dumbass in other areas as well, computers [mac] drive me crazy. I gotta go hit something with a hammer. This is supposed to be a simple thing to do, thats what I'm told, but.........

Could you use Itunes to take music from your cd and put them on a flashdrive?  Not sure if that would work since Apple uses it's own proprietary format for music.  What you need is a program that will take songs from cd and convert them to mp3 format (a standard for most music players).

Windows Media Player will rip a CD to MP3 format. It is pretty straight forward.

YouTube is not a place to download music. You have to get your music from someplace else.
If you have music CDs you can copy them directly to your computer and then copy the tunes onto a flash drive.

Your easiest and best bet to buy music is to download it from the iTunes Store.
If you're looking to obtain tunes for free, I can't help, but there's probably a number of folks here who can.

Most car systems can only play audio files(MP.3), YouTube files are video files(mp.4).

You have to find audio files to put on your USB drive, you can buy them from Apple using itunes or from Amazon, or rip them from CD's you already own. Itunes songs cost between 99 cents and $1.29 and Amazon starts around 79 cents. You can also use file sharing services for free, but you may end up down loading more than just music.

There are programs out there that will allow you to get tunes for free on your smart phone.  If you HAVE a smart phone then that will hook up to your truck either thru bluetooth, or with a wire I would think.

Look at Rhapsody and Spotify.  I think they both have free versions.

You can download Youtube videos and extract the sound, converting them to MP3s.  One freeware program that I've used is YTD Video Downloader.  If you don't upgrade it it's a two-step process: 1. download 2. convert.  Of course you can pay money to make it one step.

Thanks for the info. With my computer skills it seems like I need to ask one of the youngsters. Some of the Mac 'thingys' say what I want can be done, but, not by me.

don't know a thing about a MAC PC vs. a windows based operating system, sorry, can't help.  Find someone with knowledge of MAC PC's and should be good to go.   I didn't even know you can download music from youtube website.

I also didn't know any new vehicle nowadays did not have as standard eqmt. a CD player.  Shows you how much I know?  Gee, to go back to cassette tapes or as most on this board remember even 8 tracks in vehicles which was a tad before my time.

I was brought up around vehicles that just had AM radios which may explain why I can't do much with computers.  GM still comes with a CD drive [ I think it'll be eliminated with the changes for next year], but its now an option for Ford and Dodge.
I usually have to order a vehicle, but, this one had everything I wanted except for that.

Does your new vehicle have a standard auxiliary plug in port to plug in your mp3 player into?  Most new vehicles have that round plug in port along with a usb port but also come with a cd player. 

If it has this round plug in, just use your mp3 player,etc. to plug in and set your settings on the radio for AUX (auxiliary), turn up the volume most or all the way on your mp3 player, etc. and enjoy your music thru the cars speakers.
