Does anybody know if the piston rings in a 1997Valkyrie are nitrate, moly or what?

CajunRider

VERY few people have ever needed to replace the rings... so it may take a while to get an answer on that one.

Wish I could help, but I can't.  Sorry.

It's just a curiosity thing with me.I've looked in a mechanics manual and eveywhere else but have come up empty.Almost all Jap cars have nitrated rings so the Valkyrie probably does but I'd like to know for sure.

Doesn't look like 'Rickey D' knows what kind of rings are in a '97 valkyrie either.I've been reading a lot about 1500 valkyrie engines lately and the kind of piston rings they have has so far has escaped me. Looks like they so seldom fail that no one has any experience with them.My valkyrie has 92,000 on it and I never have to add oil between changes[once a year in the spring. I use MobilI 15-50.

I really doubt that it has standard cast rings.American cars haven't had cast rings since the '60s.

What Ricky D did was answer your question and very nicely but what he didn't tell you was why those piston rings on the Valkyrie are different from the 1500 Gold Wing piston rings. I guess it was because you didn't ask very nicely.   :2funny:

I have taken notice to those who use that word (Precautionary) and abide by it are not only very happy in life...
but they also live long and prosper.  ;)

I suspect that whatever type of rings were used in '97 Valkyries it was one kind used in ALL of them not the several different alloys Rick said
