So I'm watching WGN news yesterday, and they had a story about Cary Illinois having a police officer come in to teach the kids what a gun sounds like so that "IF" they hear those noises they should run for cover!!  HOW STUPID IS THAT!!  The police used a starter's pistol and many of the teachers had NEVER heard a gun go off.  Really?  Never?

So I text my brother and ask him about it, he lives in Crystal Lake which is close to Cary.  He told me the Crystal Lake school district sent out an email saying they did the same thing, but they used REAL guns!!  He said a lot of parents were ticked off!!

   Mornin Alph,

This is so out of control. I totally believe in being pro active but where does stupidity come in? Now what do the kids listen to or for, the teacher or a pending gunshot?

They need to fire a starter assault weapon as well, after all, aren't the assault weapons the real threat here?

What a bunch of morons!  Why not take the kids on a field trip to the range and let tem bust some caps?  That way if they happen to overpower an assailant, they can take out his accomplices and possibly save a few lives.

IMHO   this is all a knee jerk reaction to one incident.  But by keeping it in the news the next wack job is planning his 15 minutes of fame.  How many times have you seen one incident cause a whole bunch of laws and media frenzy...
Be polite. Be professional. But, have a plan to kill everyone you
meet.

it is sad...  here in eau claire, there's a middle school (DeLong) where they use to have riffle shooting as a gym class!!  there's a room that is now a storage room where it is still set up as a riffle range, IN THE SCHOOL!!  they stopped the classes back in 1975, why? i think it's 'cause the area started to develope more, and they didn't want kids to accidently shoot something outside of the class.  kids were actually allowed to bring their own riffles to use in the gym class, but they were required to be locked at all times until use.

the class was used more as a "gun safety" class.  i remember my older brothers went to a safety class where they use to shoot a 22LR for a gun safety.  i wanted to, but it was discontinued when i got of age, it was only for kids 16 or older.

boy, have times changed.

Here in Sheboygan there was a gun range in the junior high school. It was closed down in the last year or two.
It was closed because no one wanted the kids to get lead poisoning.

The only lead posioning I've heard of occuring was if you were standing down range during a shooting tournament, doesn't happen very often.  Just another example of people without a clue making the rules.
