I have a 99 red & Black Interstate & Decided that a little make over this off season was what she needed.
Have been considering changing the look of my bike for years now & never had the nerve to pull the trigger. Specially on my budget i would be doing all the work myself, which even if i had the extra cash I would still probably be the one with the sprayer in hand.
Anyway, a couple years back i heard about vinyl wrapping & I fooled around with it for a while,  thought it might be promising seeing that it can easily be removed if i ever wanted to go back to the original paint. So ... here we are, it's not quite finished but almost there.
Just finished up the front wheel tonight, and the entire scheme is finally coming together.
I always loved the matte black look cooldude, let me know what you think.

Exactly my thoughts....... if it stays put and clean, it would beat the crud out of trying to keep old wheels polished.

Sorry, should have clarified that, the wheels are actually done in a spray type rubberized material. You can find plenty of videos on the web.  Armor All had just came out with this stuff called Custom Shield http://www.aacustomshield.com/  .
But after researching it more, it actually has been around for years (same exact stuff) at 1/2 the price call Plasti dip.  They have some great detailed vids if you want to learn more. The stuff goes on a bit blotchy, but after a few coats really smooths out & dries to a great even finish.  I wasn't sure how the plasti-dip would react to the high temps, So rotors were just sprayed with High Temp flat black paint.

My sugestion is to buy some & practice...
I think i wrapped my side covers twice each & my Pods 3x & still not happy with the results, just not sure I want to make another attempt at it right now, maybe when i finish with some other projects first.
You learn something new on almost every wrap.

The plasti dip will not hold up for long. Unless they have a better formula than the old stuff.

We'll see, I put on 5-6 coats per side, another good thing about this stuff is that if you change your mind or it doesn't hold up, it peels right off.
I'll post an update after July, thats when a group of us take off for our yearly week long road trip, should be a good test. Right now it looks as good today as the day i sprayed it.  Wink

Don,

I am thinking about plasti dipping my IS...while it is torn apart for winter maintenance...do you have any up dates on longevity? Also, has anyone done an entire (plastics) with this stuff?

Love my green valk, but would like to see it as a all flat black and I think this might be the option for me.

PM REB.  He did a bunch of stuff on his Wing.  Really makes it look sweet!  He should be able to tell you if it is holding up or not.

Reb showed me his parts that he did. convinced me to spray my scratched up bag lids. It has held up so far, although I should have sprayed 4 or 5 coats instead of just 2.  They make it in 4 or 5 colours.
