M/C Scavenger Hunt

The club that I ride with is making plans for our annual poker run.  Before I put my idea of a scavenger hunt out I'd like some input from ya'll.  Yes?  No?  Have you done one of these?  Fun or not?  I did one maybe ten years ago with my jeep and a buddy and had a blast, but would like some opinions. It seems to me that everyone does poker runs, and its beating a dead horse.

To me, Scavenger Hunts there was less booze consumed than if it was a Poker Run.

If ya go with a Scavenger Hunt, let them leave after a certain time and be back by a certain time.       Don't let them be runnin in a pack, cause then it is harder than the devil to pick a winner.

Last one I partook in, we had 10 items to look for.      You could do as many as you wanted so long as you were back to the start before the ending time.

We were tough on them.     We had 2 workers in the parking lot when the time ran out.    They closed in on the line and anyone who came up afterwords were told you were not in on time, so we will mark off one of your items to make up for the lost time.    It pissed off a few drunk riders, but they got over it.

   Been on a couple. I think it was RJ that said there is less booze consumed when on a scavenger hunt than a poker run. True, and around here poker runs have turned into more like bar runs. Guys running around double fisted drinking, some smoking pot and I'm in a pack with these people...Seen people not be able to get on their bikes at the end of a poker run. Not holier than now, to each his own,  but I don't drink and ride, I save that for when I'm done for the day. Not to mention I prefer to ride alone and I really don't like riding with people I don't know. But, a good cause poker run is a good thing too. The flip side, I've been on some really great poker runs! Never won......

   These (scavenger runs) are fun if done right with time limits and an area to stay in.

If a guy has such little self control that he drinks too much to ride what brought him, It's absolutely easy to be holier than that thou.

And YoungPup, I think it's a great idea!

It would have to be fun. With todays technology it would be a hoot to just shoot what is on your list with a camera, especially on a m/c scavenge. Go meet somewhere & view with a projector.

Items big enough to recognize and small enough to go in the saddle bags. Or a back pack. My first M/C was naked. When you go on a poker run and 3 or 4 card picks are in a tavern-well lets just say i've marked a lot of poker runs off of my list. Takes enough concentration to ride sober-add alcohol and ALL bets are off.  RIDE SAFE.

Many years ago I was involved with one (not on motorcycles) and people got carried away collecting the required items... tearing stuff up and damaging property.  And the last item on the list was a hairy beaver.........now how in heck were we supposed to find one of those?

I have done the poker runs to bars. I'm not a fan, like has been said a lot of drinking and then getting back on the bike and drive like hell to the next one.
Now one of the groups I ride with has done a scavenger hunt of sorts. Instead of gathering items they of given historic marker (bridges, parks or some landmark) to find. There are always some sort of hints to the location, and what it is they are looking for. It is at that landmark where they receive their next card.
