Had the front wheel off to rebuild the forks. This is not the first time I have had the front wheel off. Installed everything like I have before and my speedometer is out now. I know from past riding that at 3,000 rpm, in 5th gear, I am doing 100kph. Now, at 3,000 rpm, in 5th gear, it only registers 70 kph on the speedo. Took the speedometer drive unit off and noticed some of the teeth on the gear are pooched. Anyone run across this before?  Could this cause a difference in my speedometer? I should mention I ride a 2000 Valkyrie Interstate.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I would think that if any of the gears are not mateing then that would
or could have an effect on your speedo.

I had recurring speedo problems that didn't go a way until I replaced the front bearings even when replacing the speedo gear and assembly.  The only thing I can figure is the bearing wasn't bad enough to notice (by feel or handling) but had enough slop to interfere with the sensor getting a good read.  It's been over a year since replacement & I haven't had any speedo problems since.

Installed the new gear and the speedometer works fine now. :)
