My Gosh Man, you're a traveling son of a gun ! Thats great, you've been to some nice places. It looks like you went for a swim somewhere between Key Largo and Key West. How were the Black Hills ? I'd like to get back there and see how things have changed over 40 years.

east slope of siera nevada mountians RT 395 area california 2nd

deserts are my favorite

its pretty, dry and open you can see it comming...... what ever it is

Great job Dan. Nice to know some of your favorite riding is in my part of the country. You are right, the Sierra Nevada's are spectacular. A great combination of beautiful mountains and forests and stark deserts. Wonderful riding area. Mt. Whitney to Death Valley in the same day.

Sorry if I missed it but what's the time frame for these travels, Dan?

the swim beyween key largo and key west is the road to flamingo in the everglades

the black hills are cool, watch out for deer and buffalo. a bit crowded during the rally when i was there last year

make sure you check out wind cave, jewel cave, badlands and iron mountian road.

death valley is another favorite. im thinking of gettting a ural and spending some time there

the EASTERN slope of the serias puts you in the rain shadow of the mountians hence dryer. it also keeps you between the elevation and the desert. this allows you to adjust you climate quickly by changing you postion.

i  bougt my bike in 2002 with 10k its got 126k {as do i BTW} i had a one year liscence suspention

Dan, since you obviously have lots of highway miles I'd be curious to know now many miles you get from a tank before reserve and total. Can you fill us in on that please? Just sucks to start looking every hundred or so and curious how your results have been.

with the original tank i hit reserve at 120 miles, hitch hiking at 150-155

with the interstate tank i hit reserve at 165, out at 195 200 miles

thats with a full load 70-75 mph

Well, OK, I've never been on the road to Flamingo. Might have to try it this winter.
I really enjoyed S Dakota. Well, still do. At the the time we were able to camp right under Mt Rushmore. The Black Hills are beautiful, the Badlands are bad. I like the caves but am not sure whether we were ever on Iron Mountain Rd.
Have you spent much time going thru the NY Finger Lakes or Adirondacks ? Just wondering whether you liked them or not.

the finger lakes ...no

the adirondacks are one of my favorite riding areas. they are pretty, the roads are well matained, wide shoulders, lots of areas to stop {picnic smoke a butt take a picture}. white face mountian has a cool road to go up.

so yeah i give the adirondacks a big thumbs up
