Speed control being used in Canada .
How's this for effective speed control?



I don't know about you, but
this would certainly slow me down!
People slow down and actually
try to straddle the "hole."



This is an actual speed control
device that is currently in use.
It is MUCH cheaper than speed
cameras, radar guns, police officers, etc.



Pretty clever -- especially when they move
them around every day.

I would think that would be illegal, and very dangerous. In my neighborhood they just put up a four-way stop at each intersection, even on a state highway.HT

I think it's one of those ideas that look neat at first glance but in practice can lead to major death and destruction.

Sure it'll slow folks down. Also cause them to swerve uncontrollably, slam on brakes, abruptly change lanes without warning, and possibly lead to an accident that could get someone hurt or killed.

If the point is to slow traffic down, lay down obvious speed bumps (yellow bumps) and post signage stating that there are speed bumps ahead for the regulation of speed on that road. Even if you miss the sign, the speed bump itself would be instantly recognized for what it is, not a giant pothole that could destroy my car.

I always thought they were speed bumps.

In one 'hood near here they have signs that say; "Raised Humps." Gee, how's that different from a normal hump. Are some humps raised only slightly, or not at all. Or are they depressions in road so when you reach the other side of it, THEN you're experiencing a "hump." I'm cornfused!!

One local twit caused himself to wreck simply because he was driving like a fool and went airborne over a speed bump. Apparently he was trying to get ahead of a car in the adjacent lane and speeded up at the hump/bump. When he came down, his wheels were slightly turned and presented him with one of those same feelings I got the first(and only) time I groundlooped a taildragger. Believe it or not, the tower called me...asked if I was OK, and with an affirmative answer they hit the mic and I could hear the entire tower crew.....APPLAUDING. The controller came back on and told me it was agreed; mine was an 8.
