The practice targets supplied to the DHS. Disturbing.

I found this more than a little disturbing, makes one wonder just what's up. Can you imagine any president in the last 50-60 yrs. doing something like this. Obviously there is a demand for this kind of target by the DHS. Maybe the name needs to be changed to Dept. of Hierarchy Security, sure not for protecting the Homeland.

   When we used to shoot combat courses we shot what our instructors called "transitional targets". Not all crooks were in a "P" jacket with a shotgun. It could be anyone and we faced this crap everyday. A pregnant woman can end your tour as fast as anyone dressed like I described. Look at the hands and the holder doesn't matter much. A 45 in your face no matter who has it will make you dead.

I see what you're saying, what disturbs me about these is the backgrounds. It's not a pregnant woman on the street, it's a pregnant woman in a baby nursery. It's not a old man in a convenience store, it's an old man in (presumably) his own home.

I can see where training to take down a threat would make sense, no matter the threat, but the implication that mass numbers of DHS "Officers" are being trained to be desensitized about going into people's own homes and shooting pregnant women in their own baby nurseries is rather disturbing.

I hate to be the voice of caution on a subject that disturbs me as much as anyone, but nowhere in the article does it say that DHS is actually purchasing the targets -- the manufacturer just has them availalable.

Of course I can't find the news article I'd originally read to back this up, but as I recall, no, we don't know for sure that THESE are the targets that DHS is buying, but we DO know that this company will only sell those targets to police and DHS agencies, AND that DHS has purchased almost $2,000,000 worth of products from this company...

What they bought with our $2 million we don't know for sure, of course...

   I guess my point being at least from an LE perspective is not to trust a situation until its deemed safe no matter who it involves or where the situation takes place. Never really dwelled on a target during qualifying but when shooting a combat course things take on a  different perspective. Targets flash and they may be a kid / woman with a gun, never know. Outside, Inside, or in a vehicle doesn't matter. Man, woman or youngster it really doesn't matter either. Old man with a shotgun can be protecting his kid that there is a felony warrant for in the same home, and I've been privy to that several times. I'm not disputing or indicating that all of this is right, just that I don't let my guard down until I can. There are to many untrustworthy people anymore and I like to go home at night.

What I found shocking was this fall when I was back in WI I went to the Bristol gun range where they don't allow shooters to use standard FBI silhouette targets - "no human figures".  All bullseye targets.  Yep that's probably the cause of all these mass shootings. The liberals strike again. Shees.

Believe me, I don't support this.  I just try and guard against implications becoming conclusions.

As far as DHS is concerned, what may have been an entity created in the interest of public safety is now an example of why it's important to stay off the slippery slope, regardless of who is holding the safety rope at the time.

Looks to me like the police broke into the wrong address and she is defending herself.  DHS might be using this for cover-up code blue training.
