I have a 2000 Interstate and just turned 100,000 miles last week. LOVE the bike. When letting off the throttle or going down a steep hill it will start "popping". Would this be considered backfiring or something else? How do I get rid of this noise as it didn't use to do that. I appreciate your help.

Check and/or replace the vacuum lines, tighten the exhaust retainer nutz along with intake retainer nutz and the carburetor band clamps.. If it still gives a problem, we'll start again..

In addition to the other post: check the base of the intake runners. If you see ANY oil, replace the O rings at the base of the runners. They're a #123 and get them in viton or silicone.

Its just an air leak, do the above and you will be ok.
